Bikini Top
Hi,
I am looking for a picture of a Fez with a Bikini top.
Have been offered one pretty cheap, but I got no idea what it looks like.
Also if anyone has any comments, advise, etc on bikini tops (for cars not girls ) please let me know
Thanks

bringing this post back from the dead...
since summer is almost upon us in sydney i want to get one of these made up.
Who can recommend a good/cheap motor trimmer or even a sail/tent maker in the inner west area??
I was thinking of making it cover just the front section and using the orginal brackets, so i can store this in the car and if i leave the sunroof at home it could be used as an emergency cover.

so your thinking more of a safari top than a bikini top then???senergy wrote:i was thinking of sowing some alloy rods in the front and back with hooks.
speaking of a safari top.. has anyone figured out how to remove the windows from the rear hard-top. The back window is pretty obvious... but I'd really like to remove the side windows too.

those are easy, provided you are willing to risk scraching the curved bolt head. just simply use something to clamp onto the outside black curved bolt top(easier with a second person), and inside the window is a nut you can undo. OR, with a little bit more work, you can unscrew the brackets that holds the windows in place(two in front, 1 in back for the latch). just take your time taking them out, and be VERY slow and make sure you dont cross the threads when you put them back in. you have to have a second person to hold the window so you dont fight as much and can focus on making sure you dont cross the threads.

Not sure what you mean by a safari top, it needs to have some hooks on the front to use the existing latches (that is easy) but on most bikini tops the rears are held down at the corners to keep things nice and taught. But I want to use the center latch so it can be used while the rear roof is still on.
So a alloy rod front and rear with the latches/hooks attached will keep the bikini top taught but still allow it to be rolled up when packed away.
Easy enough to make but i dont have a sowing machine..
As for removing the windows, I used multi grips to grip the outside. A couple of my nuts were rusted so a dremel was needed and replacement nuts found.
$10 for the orginals or $5 for second hands....
I dont think its easy enough to take them in and out depending on the weather, mine came out to get tinted...

A safari top is a canvas top from front to back with no sides.
