Vitara 94 Transmision Issues (Loose/FreePlay Feeling)

Post by RedVit94 »

Hey all, Just curious if anyone else getting same issue as me, According to a local mechanic, its a common fault with them.
-To be honest , im not sure what the exact problem is, and kind of hard to explain, but ill try. - When placeing into Gear, and especially when coming to a sudden stop, theres sort of like a jolt, sort of like free play, or something loose somewhere. Mechanic suspects its loose at the Output shaft. Am getting it checked out soon anyway, was just curious if anyone else gets it. thnks.

im having similar problem with my 97 coily... the gearbox has alot of movement in the shaft for some reason, but i can't find a mount broken. and i have a DEATH wobbles in my steering.. SURE! it could! be the wheel balancing, but i highly doubt this due to the fact that this was done not too long ago. so i suspect a steering issue. i lifted up the bonnet and gave the steering rod that comes from the firewall to the steering box a shake, and there is a tiny bit of play there to the point i can make as noise whilst doing it. the steering box itself seems to be fine(unsure though) the play i suspect is coming from the small uni that joins the rod coming from the firewall to the rod going to the steering box. if anyone knows whats happening here, id really appreciate the help as im afriad its just going to snap on me on the freeway (mind you atleast id know what the problem was then :p) i've taken it to a mechanic, but he's a lazy prick and i find i do a better job than most mechanics as i have more pride in my car then majority of them do.
Thanks

Sorry if i kind of went off track with the thread RedVit94, but what i'd do is get under the car with a rod of some description, and prior the box to see whether or not you have broken as mount, otherwise give all your tailshafts a shake to assess the condition of the uni-joints. another suggestion would be checking your engine mounts as this to can cause a shake in the gearbox.

Thanks

Chris

I would be checking the radius arm bush's and panhard rod bush's in relation to the steering shakes. Also loose wheel bearings and flogged out kingpin bearings.
