Extractors for diesel or not!!

Post by giffo »

I have read many a thread on Outerlimits over the past month or so.
After receiving replys to my bit on increasing power to my 1991 2.8 diesel 4 Runner (5 speed) it was decided that a turbo at this stage was to expensive.
Many said "Go for the extractors" So I am buying a set off a fellow member this week.
My questions are:
1. What size exhaust? 2" or whatever?? (all the way)
2. What type of muffler? (been told free flow system)
3. What increase in power will I achieve??
4. What else can I do?

I mentioned in my thread some weeks ago I was towing a 1.3 tonne boat and was worried about getting up hills. Well I did try and Yes, I made it up the bloody big hill, BUT SLOWLY.
Hopefully the extractors will help OR IS IT A WASTE OF TIME??

I put extractors on mine with a 2.5" freeflow system and mate for the dollars you are wasting your time in my opinion - i was dissapointed and ended up getting a turbo 6 mnths later and there is no looking back. Save the cash and get the turbo with a straight through system (no muffler as the turbo acts as the muffler).

I got a DTS kist fully installed and dyno'd for under $2,500. There is also a few threads that talk about using the Surf CT20 turbo which you can get for around $500 odd including manifold etc then just fit it up. There is actually some on ebay at present.
