Hilux Seats

Post by millers1 »

Hi all, have a 89 sr5 dual cab lux and want to replace the front seats without any modifications eg welding, drilling holes etc, Was looking at either a set of SR5 seats out of later model eg up to 97 V6 SR5 as they have the side bolstering etc or a set out of a ssr hilux surf similiar to recaro's. Would these bolt traight in and where in Sydney would be a place to start looking, have rang a couple of wreckers but they dont have any and said they usually dont. The old seats are still in good nick material wise but the padding has not much support left and I find my back starting to ache after driving long distances. Also any idea on would be a realistic price for some thing like these. Regards Steve M

Hey dude,

there is a bloke selling some brand new luxie seats in the for sale section.
Have a look there.

Failing that, PM me in a few days, I might be able to track a seat down for
you as I was just looking for new seats myself 2 months ago.

I ended up using MA60 Supra seats as they are alot better than the luxie
seats. They have air cusion support, and adjustable bucketness on the
legs and back section. Very pimp.
Took a bit of work to get them fitted though.
Have to cut off your hilux seat rails (the metal slidey things that the seat
moves backwards and forwards on) and replace the ones already on the supra seats. The drivers side lines up sweet as width wise.
The passenger seat was a little out, but only on the inner side rail.
the outer but only by a cm or two. and was easy to modify to fit.

Basically the only seat that will work as you want it to, ie bolt in no mods,
go for the luxie seats. The surf seats are nice, but you are right, hard to
find in good nick. Basically as far as I know all the luxies, 4runners/surfs, and any other hilux variant the seats and 90% of similar parts are
interchangable.

Cheers,
Bart

The Surf recaros are almost impossible to find at any price. I have seen damaged SSRG Surfs on the online auction catalogs tho, so there must be some out there somewhere.

Other than that as Bart said, only luxy seats will bolt straight in. This means any seat from 84- 97 lux will bolt in (maybe even earlier too?), but 84- 88 Surfs are different. 89 - 95 4/runner/ surf seats will bolt in.

Any lux seats 97 on have different bases/ bolt holes.

Another option is to get your existing seats repadded/ bolstered- I think it is around $200+ per seat at a guess.
