Dump pipe for GU 4.2 Turbo

Post by Buckshot »

I will be getting the exhaust done on my Gu in the next few weeks.I have heard the dump pipe on the 4.2 Turbo is very retsrictive.Where does the dump pipe restrict? Is it on the join from the turbo,or does the pipe narrow down after the join?
The reason I am asking is that I was going to use the join from the old exhaust and weld the 3 inch to it.
Does the join allow optimum flow?
Thanks

Hey mate,

Its actually the casting off the back off the turbo which is resticivite, you can weld it on but with changing to a more flowwing dump thats where you notice the difference in the exhause just changing the back part will only change the note of the vehicle.

I believe you can why exhaust guy just ordered one in and made the rest of the pipe himself. All you need is the part just off the back of the turbo and goes into 3".

the MTQ one is cast like the OE one, I think all the others are fabricated.
IIRC, the MTQ one is $220, and a complete system $660.

the Landy is friggin loud with the 3" system sans muffler, so the missus has demanded a muffler when I fab up the system for her Patrol.

I'm pretty sure MTQ put the boss in the down pipe (just below the flange), not the dump.

I dont reckon Mandrel is worth the effort on such a low performance motor as a TD.. you could save $ there too.
Interesting on the price of Stainless .. bit  than I expected...
Mild looks good :D

i have had many quotes in the last few days.Midas exhausts quoted $300 plus.Custom made.

Carline quoted up to $600.Stainless custom.Told me that some turbopatrols could only have 2 and a 1/2 inch off the turbo.

MTQ quoted around $255 including GST.

Binskins uses an MTQ Dump Pipe or they can get one with press bent metal for under $200.This was from Mecury exhausts.Apparently it won't last as long as Stainless or Cast.

What do you guys reckon?
