G'day all,
Just got a 88 GQ LWB td42 patrol. It currently has standard 7.50 R16's. This rig has a 2" coil lift but other wise is stock as. I want to fit wider rubber and possible bigger, only thing is I want to keep it mainly as a tow rig and daily driver. I want to make it useable off road and have no hesitations when it comes to cutting the guards
So should I just get some 32's but by say 10.5 tyres or should I go all out and fit 35x12.5 and change the diff ratio to 4.3's (which I have), I assume it would have 4.1's stock though? Also the rear is drum, is it possible to just swap the drum axle/hub complete with the disc version (is it interchangeable)

Whole rear axle can be swapped for a disc version. keep your eyes out and you might even get a factory locker.
Running 33"s or even 35"s isnt too much of a prob for a daily driver, although 33"s would be better if you're intending towing.
You should intend to armour up the rar quarters and sills BEFORE they get mangled, not after

okay this rig isn't going that hardcore wheeling, but it is getting side bars and a rear bar.
don't really want to swap whole rear axle, but if I can unbolt the drum/axle and bolt the disco one in I'm laughing as I have the disc axles here already

to be honest it go 33s on a 3inch lift and 2inch body and keep the factory lsd for now
No pain in the conversion
i have just done the swap at the start of the year it was as simple as unbolt wheel the old one out put the new one in and do up. I haven't had a drama with mine. The thing now stops instead of just slowing down.

Cheers Mick.
yeah, will be doing the disc conversion ASAP
as for tyres might even stick with the 32" size just get some 11.5" wide ones, just it might be needed as recovery vehicle. Mainly towing around my Buggy or Land Rover "Truggy". so the pootrol won't be hitting the hard stuff in the rough

It aint that simple, ever car/tire combo will give different reading. my MTR's gave different reading to mates when we swapped tires (he had a shake in the car, thought it was tires)... both tires similar klmscurrentlyoffline wrote:32's should give you a slight error on the speedo. At 105 on the speedo, you are really doing 100, according to my GPS.
With that size tyre you should be sitting around 2200 rpm at 100k's, plenty there for overtaking.
Guru,
good buy mate...
I tow my Patrol behind mt GQ shorty... disk rear etc.
i run 2 inch spring lift and 33x12.5 tyres on standard 4.1 diff ratios. tows it farely confortably.
so if i were you... maybe look at 33x12.5s? they work for me.

yeh i found the 31s to tow worse than the 33s also.shakes wrote:i got 33x11.5's in my shorty and she tow's as good as you'd expect the tb42 too.
with the 31's on it I found it to be a lil low on torque and to rev alot but go nowhere.
