hi,

I recently got a bundy and am interested in getting power steering. is it and 80 series pwer steering that goes into them fairly easily? what are they worth? is it a big job? Now im not great with mechanics (yet), so how long would it take someone to fit one?

thanks for your help.

cant wait to come out driving with club members once the car is on the road.

cheers,

Dunno if they came out with p/s in late models but that will be your first point of call.. look at your gearbox thread for info re halls 4x4 and all toy spares.

dude, you do this on every thread. LEAVE IT for 24 hours before you bump it, a lot of us inly read the forum once every 24 - 48 hours so have some patience, the answers will come. 3 hours is not long enough for everyone who has something to say about your question to have had a look at it. 3 days will not be long enough in a lot of cases.

in answer to your question, the 60 series power steer box is identical to the bundera power steer box, with a different pitman arm, you can use the pitman arm off your manual steer box, or you can use the 60 series one, they aren't different enough to make it worth changing, but the bundera one is stronger.

For your 22R you can get the power steer pump, bracket and crankshaft pulley off a celica, corona, hilux (need engine mount) or later model bundera, with a 21R or 22R motor. you can use the power steering cooler off any 7x series cruiser. the plumbing you can mix and match from any of the above, you shouldn't need anything custom made. of course if you're using the power steer pump on your V8 then don't bother with this bit.

DO NOT use the steering box off a 70/73/75 series (leaf spring front), they look the same but turn the other way and unless you know, you'll get the whole conversion done and try to drive away, turn the steering wheel left, and the vehcile will turn right.

In my experience (I have owned 2 bundys with manual steer and one with power steer), they don't need power steering, and you will end up bending draglinks off road - the draglink is in front of the axle and thin and weak and turning left puts the draglink in compression and it doesn't take much to buckle it good - voila no sterring in the bush - TOPS. so if you do convert it, laminate or otherwise upgrade your draglink. But don't waste your money, just eat your weet bix and pull hard when you need to.

enjoy

don't know. 60 box is bound to be more available and cheaper, and is plenty strong enough for a bundy.

DD is on the money as per usual, when I upgraded from stock to 32' MTR's it nearly felt as the steering got lighter i wouldn't bother its a waste of money, your better off using that money when you do the V6/V8 conversion

Cheers

I agree with what has been said. The armstrong steering is good from factory and mine felt alot lighter with the bigger rubber on it too. I only went to P/S because the V6 had the pump on it otherwise mine would still be manual steering!
