Just after an opinion before I commit myself...
I want to raise the height of my box trailer to match my fourby. I was looking at cutting off leaf springs on the frame and putting in an additional steel cross member then welding the spring hangers back on.
But...I was looking at the aluminium lowering blocks that are used to lower 2wd's and thought I could use these in reverse.
Here is an example of the blocks:

Raising height on trailer

so your leafe is already over the axle? most trailers (that ive seen) come with the spring under, so putting the spring over will give you a 2" lift if its not already done.
Is your trailer a home build or build by a manufacturer? if its home built you could just laminate the chasis rail with another box section in the area where the springs run, then reweld on your spring perch, this would look the best and probably be the strongest option.

Axle already under springs and yes it is a home made trailer, but it is an off road, purpose built trailer with reinforced spring hangers so that is why I didn't want to go cutting them up.
Should I go aluminium blocks or steel? BBM have steel ones for $88 a pair. The aluminium ones on e-bay are around the same price.

Less chance of twisting of the leafs/axle/u-bolts etc. Chassis would be stronger too!
But if you do the spring over axle, you alreay gain that amount and less stuff under the axle to get caught up in ruts. (if thats your intended purpose for the trailer
