I just noticed in my gregories manual covering the HJ47 HJ60 HJ61 HJ75 models from 1980 to 1990 that there is an aditional centrifugal oil filter mentioned. What model was this fitted to? Has anyone ever had any experience with them? Are they any good?
It looks like it would be possible to retrofit it to any 2H aslong as you get the right oil filter bracket. The centrifugal oil filter sits ontop of the oil filter bracket, whilst the normal oil filter goes below the oil filter bracket (as it does normally).

They were only fitted to 1980-81 HJ47's. It's main job was to remove the shoot from the oil. They are also prone to leak oil either when the clamp ring is not seated properly or the o-ring is worn. Also being close to the starter motor can make it diifercult to remove/replace the clamp ring.
As far as I know, with 82 onwards 2H motors, Toyota removed it as well as the re-sleavable cylinders.

AWD is a poor excuse for a 4WD.
hmm, sounds like it could be rare too then.Sweeney wrote:They were only fitted to 1980-81 HJ47's. It's main job was to remove the shoot from the oil. Properley not as rare as the twin cartridge fuel filter setup (opposed to the later single spin-on filter) that the early 2H motors had. On second though, the HJ47 was a very popular utility, so finding one shouldn't be too hard.
I like the idea of the oil spinner but it can add 15-30 mins of time every service. Disassemble, clean and then reassemble.
