hmmm....I use all 5 so they all wear out together....spare to drivers rear, driver rear to drivers front, drivers front to pasenger rear, passenger rear to passenger front, passenger front to spare....this way they all get a run, rotation is every 5000km's (or there abouts)......
Why would you rotate your spare onto the road too. Your saying to even out wear but all this is doing is makeing it more expencive when it come time to purchase another set of tyres,as you`ll need 5 not 4.

Only rotate 4. And when you need your spare, only use it to get you to a tyre place. Then the 5th tyre will last you through atleast 2-3 sets of tyres.

Only rotate 4. And when you need your spare, only use it to get you to a tyre place. Then the 5th tyre will last you through atleast 2-3 sets of tyres.
But each set lasts longer, because it's not the same 4 tyres wearing all the time. And when I replace my tyres, I replace the spares too - changing tyre brands/sizes/styles isn't an issue, because I don't need to worry about compatibility with the spare.

Got 2 x spares as well & virtually thinking along the same lines - but changing fronts diagnally to the rears, thereby changing the direction of tyre rotation on the road.

I am running A/T's that have been sitting in a mates shed for ~7 years . They seem ok so far (about 15k) but must admit they are wearing a little quicker than what I had hoped.
If you rotate spare in aswell of course the set should last 20% longer hence negating the extra expense argument. Also all of your tyres will be roughly the same diametre and not affecting driveline if the odd one is used.
And lastly there is a couple of little things, namely UV and OZONE which deteriorate tyres no matter where or how they are stored! this meaning that when you're zipping around on your band new set of tyres your spare tyre, that you are keeping for an emergency, is the most vulnerable tyre you will be carrying. wise decision?? I think not, but it's your call!
Oh yeah, I hate to be a myth buster, but stashing your tyres under the house for twelve months doesn't really do them any good!
Tyres perish over time and manufacturers have a 5 year manufacturing guarantee on their tyres. Outside of this there is more possibility of ozone cracking, belt seperation and other unhappy things. I prefer to roatae spares through. THis way you don't have a 8 year old tyre on the vehicle that may have only done 100kms in its life getting used and having issues.

Spare to LR
LR to LF
LF to RR
RR to RF
RF to spare
