SD33 Drowned fixed running fine now governor problem ?

Post by TheGreyGhost »

Greetings.

A couple of months ago I had an unfortunate and embarrassing acciedent, getting washed of a creek crossing and completely drowning my MQ (another Kimberley moment).

After retrieval, dumped all fluids, bled lines etc and changed filters. 100k's after, rinsed and repeated.

The vehicle has been running fine for a couple of months then yesterday the engine continued to gain and hold rev's, thinking a cable might be stuck stabbed the throttle and it opened more. Not having a great deal of experience with diesel engines I was rather bemused to see only one cable running to a butterfly...

Ok so its a pneumatic mechanical governor...

Have disconnected the hoses to the pump / cleaner assy and air travels freeley.

In the off position there are no leaks (I cannot suck or blow air through either of the lines to the governor), in the on position air travels freely through both lines (no restrictions).

There should be a diagphram somewhere.. ? Any suggestions on where to look next would be appreciated.

Could I pull the governor body off without exposing the injector pump ?

cheers.

Update. - may help someone

vacuum hoses travel from butterfly to a housing on the firewall side of injector pump. Disconnect hoses and fuel line bracket. Four bolts to pull housing off, does not expose and workings of injector pump.

In my case. diaphragm has a tear in it so no vacuum. Replace. all good.

Many Thanks. Not knowing much about diesels (first one) I read your post & checked my diaphram out. Looked ok but replaced it anyway. This is the best my 83 patrol has run since Ive had it. Nissan price $150.00
Diesel Australia Slacks Creek QLD $80.00. Very helpful staff. Thanks again for your post.

It sounds like you have a hole in your diaphragm or troubles inside the pump. If you dont know what you are doing best let someone who does, you could cause more troubles tahn you wished for.
