Are these any good off road and in general, like the 95 models? Cause they seem to be quite cheap for a car of their age.

They have IFS, which was invented for shoping. Offroad by outerlimits standards - useless. Offroad by general public, softroader standards... should be o..k.. bit of mud, sand (but as mentioned, g/box trouble common )

If you were going to go hard core off roading I don't think you would really be even asking about a bravo, but they are great value for money, seem to me to be VERY well put together & owning a 95 daul cab for the past year & I HAVENT taken it shopping once!!!! but is has seen the bush on my hunting trips & it will get you about no problems. I was that impressed with the Bravo/Courier I just bought a brand newey! Best value for money for a T/D 4x4 cab chas on the market & a well built truck, maybe it won't climb vertical rock walls but we don't all get into the 4wd extremes! My 95 d/cab is up for sale if your looking for a nice clean non abused dual cab with lots of extras.

Yeah not after something for doin hardcore suff (what is there in adelaide?) but it does need to be reliable and strong. Used for weekends wheeling/camping etc and carting pissed mates around plus work everyday. Is the gearbox failure common? Would a bravo be suitable for this with some modifications? Oh, and whats fuel consumption like on diesels and pettys?

My Courier (a 2004PH) and previous Courier (1998PE) were pretty tough in the mud and sand, fairly poor in rocky terrain (as are all IFS trucks) and never gave me an ounce of trouble reliablility wise...
The PH collects more water in the headlights than you'd think possible, and the indicators fill up quickly too (I guess that's normal when water flows over the bonnet, but the PE never took in a drop)
The 2.5TD is a great little engine, I towed heaps of boats (Iused to be a marine mechanic) with both Couriers, and only when I went way over 2 ton, or put the air con on did it slow down..
I can no longer afford the PH, so when it goes I will be looking at the PC-PD range, simply because of the great run and great fun I've had with these trucks

I had a 96 2.6lpetty single cab and had nothing but drama's.
had 31's on it and in the 5 years i owned it, went through 3 rear diffs, smashed the gearbox to bits, snapped steering tie rod ends off, power steering pump failed, broke multuple engine mounts, heaps of motor probs too,,
personally i would stay away, and feul consumption was rubbish, usually just over 300ks on one tank, never got more than 400ks even on the freeway.... just my 2 cents..

Ive got a current bravo 2,5 turbo.Only done 15K yet but goes like a bomb.10l per 100 at 110k 14l per 100 at 100k towin 15ft caravan,which it handles supprisingly well.Have towed a van out toi noccundra and down to taree via tamworth etc.Gettin a bit nervious about some of the posts here but its hard to imagine the damage done to some could happen with normal work.

I have one of these DO NOT GET ONE. A 2004 model 2.5 turbo diesel
130000kms. Performance is great but gearbox has crapped itself is now only a 4 speed no fifth gear. Ford know about the problem but refuse to do anything. This car gets me to work and back might tow a trailer to the tip and limited off roading I have a GQ for that. So you couldn't say it has had a rough life.
