thinking out loud about GU brakes

Post by AndrewPatrol »

What would be involved in fitting the discs and calipers from a 4.8 to a 3lt diesel GU. Master cylinder? hubs? are the round shiny things on end of axle, that fit inside the knuckles, the same? Is it a worthwhile upgrade for when running big tyres or would they overpower the small street tyres. Are they bigger enough to have any benifit?

Any thoughts?

I really don't think it would be worth the hassle & dollers. :? I'm running the diffs & brakes from the 2.8 gu patrol in my GQ with 37 inch tyres and it pulls up pretty well for a 4wd in my opinion.

I only did the diff change over because of the diff ratios and stronger CVs though.

Cheers Mick.

If you are after better braking then i suggest replacing all the rubber lines with braided steel lines including the short lines at the brake caliper. youll be very surprised how much better the brakes will be and should not cost more then about $280.00

the lines wont improve the brakes, they will only increase the pedal feel.

We are currently working on a brake upgrade package for gq/gu with wiwood 6 pot calipers and bigger dia rotors on the front, and moving the front calipers to the rear.

Agree with ATS on this. Running a full set of braided on a series 3. Pedal feel is vastly improved but can't say that the thing pulls up any quicker.
