Well after some time i fixed my alterantor.
If you are ahaving problems HAVE A LOOK FIRST. i got quoted $250 for a new alt but i fixed my for $60
heres a general run down on the problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-tried to start car , wouldnt crank over. battery measured 9v
-jumpstated car so it would charge its self .
-that didnt work- suspected a bung battery (got the battery feb 2005)
-a mate came over and we put the battery on charge over night, then tested it in the morning it was on 12v and holding charge well.
-Then measured the voltage when car was running it was 12v (now think alternator is buggered)
-i whip out the haynes manual and have a look. go down and buys new brushes for the alternator(after going to 3 different places ---quote for new alt is round $250).
-Put in the new brushes (took about 2hrs cause im not that mechanical but worked it out in the end)
-even with new brushes it still reads 12v when running
-now have narrowed down the problem to the alt regulator.
-go down to christine ave auto electrics (where i got the brushes) with the back half of the alt, they took the time on a sat to put it in for free between jobs (thanks heaps fellas )
-go home put the alt back together and WOOOH it works agian.
All pulled apart.a bit of dirt
this is when i put the new brushes in
i think u can tell which ones are the old and new ones
YAY
