Suspension Seats.

Post by Bitsamissin »

Picked up a set of Gen 2 suspension seats today off a Paj Club member who had sold his NH.
I installed them today and went for a drive over some rough paddocks around my area = awesome.....................
My research has discovered that there are 2 types of suspension seats :-
- Gen 1 the standard seat base is interchangeable with this model suspension seat (direct changeover).
- Gen 2 for NH & NJ GLS & GLX and NK to NL GLX only.
For the NK to NL Mitsu changed the seat base to a full solid type (integrated into the seat) for the GLS to cut costs so the Gen 2 suspension seat base will not fit.
Basically if you can remove your seat base in your Gen 2 then it will fit.
Also the Gen 1 and Gen 2 suspension seat bases are different and not interchangeable.
Imlachs here in Melbourne want $250 for the pair (bases only).
There's also a set on Ebay at the moment.
They are adjustable from hard to soft and can be locked to make them like the standard seat base.
The downside is you loose the storage tray under the passenger seat and there is no room to fit a 1Kg fire extinguisher under either seat.
Great mod if you do a lot of touring on rough roads.

In the gen1 there in enough room on the drivers side to mount the extinguisher to the lower frame of the suspension seat between the door.
This is easily accessable.

Lets see if the pics work......

So where can I put the carputer and the 6 stacker? :?

I remember having them in the NB Superwagon. Driving up a slippery hill when wheelspeed became radically higher than groundspeed. Adopted the "Suzuki Technique" of bouncing to make the car bounce, and my mate started too - but we only got the seats to bounce.

Mate's girlfriend in the back got a good laugh.

The vehicle I bought as a wreck had them and I had wonderful ideas about putting them in mine (suspension seat, armrest etc.... Luxury! ) but being a 2 door when I thought about it, they don't have the memory tilt and slide function so alas no.... If wanyone wants them in NZ - your welcome! $60 pair :D

Actually even Gen 3 has suspension seat option. Not sure what market though. They cover it in Mitsu shop manual. I've got one in my Gen 2 and totally agree with Frank. Now if I only could get my hands on new one.

Ah ha there's the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 suspension seat bases.
The Gen 1 has the adjusting knob on the side the Gen 2 has it at the front.
You can't mount a fire extinguisher along the side of the Gen 2 seat base as there is a big piece of plastic trim that houses the slide and recline levers.

The Gen 1 has the adjusting knob on the side the Gen 2 has it at the front.
My bad camera angle.
The adjuster for the spring (suspension setting) is in the front.
Just lucky there is nothing else on the side, it did look a bit untidy (bare) untill I added the fire extinguisher.

A 1kg fire extinguisher will fit clear of the RHS of the drivers seat between the door and the seat.I have one fitted there and it has not got in the way yet
