aircon question

Post by GQ Bear »

Got '92 tb42e and I want to get rid of aircon condensor and either convert aircon pump into compressor or get endless-air pump.

Is it ok to just undo aircon plumbing and release gas or should it be done by aircon bloke?

Also what's involved in converting pump and is endless-air a better pump?

Also, anyone got any suggestions for a new airbox as the factory ones are too damn big, leak like seives and let too much water in?

Thanks

it should be done by an air-con mechanic, they will recover the gas and charge you for it, then re-sell it to someone else. Sometimes aircon pipes crack and thats a damn shame............. ;)

The Gas in the A/C carries a lubricant around with it keeping the compressor lubed. Without that the compressor can overheat and seize.
Before you go wheeling squirt a bit of oil into the inlet to keep the compressor lubed. just a dribble not shit loads!.. I have seen them with a grease nipple on the side of the compressor but my way of thinking is that you'd want to give it a squirt of grease every time you went wheelin' so why not just squirt a dribble of oil in. And best if you filter the air going in. Just a mower air filter would suffice.
Cheers Adonis.
