Engine Malfunction light Question

Post by grimbo »

Just noticed this morning that one f the warning lights has come on the dash. It is the one under the glow plug one. I have no idea what it is for as I don't have a manual. The vehicle is a 99 GU DX diesel.

Hey Grimbo,
If it is the one that looks like a little engine, it is the engine malfunction indicator. Most times it just means that you have water in your fuel filter. Give the filter a drain and see how it goes, if there is no water and it is still on, you have an engine malfunction problem which is a shop job! I bet it's water though, my 3.0tdi did it all the time!

Cheers.................Pete!

I have that GU Manual on CD at home off ebay - I'll burn you a copy if that helps.

You haven't done an alternator have you??? Sounds a bit suss with all the lights coming on. You can disconnect your battery for a few minutes to reset it all then see what happens then!

I reckon it might be that or the belts are all abit worn and they might not be charging properly. I'm going to disconnect the battery tonight and charge it over night and see what happens. Either way I'm going to replac all the belts, filters, coolant and oil on the weekend and see what happens then
