I would have to agree.

I have just reconditioned a 12ht and dropped it in my HJ60.

What a sweet sound it makes

agree, my old mans 12HT has done 780,000 and only had the injectors and pump serviced- still starts and runs fine.
My old 60 has an awesome 12HT in it, gets around 780kms from 80liters- and when you got up it had huge balls. Bro brought it from me and it is still running great

Best motor ever.

Daniels

Edit....one of these in a race truck with more fuel and big boost would be the best.....

Yeah , you only get that kind of economy at around 95km/h- but yeah it is really good. My nissan coil cab with TD42 and safari turbo kit never got anywhere as good as that- and is even worse now the pump and new turbo are to comp spec..but it hauls
I would love a comp spec 12HT.....

Nothing tougher then a 12HT, my 89 Sahara just clicked 350 000k's on my trip to the snow (Brizzy-Thredbo, and back) Over taking trucks wasnt and issue 140km/h and it still wanted to keep going (but i didnt want to as i dont like the floating feeling!) she used a little oil, but i expected that. Even on hills the old girl still chuggs along, it did okay goin up Toowoomba Range 3rd gear fully loaded it held 2700RPM, the snowy mountains i was between 3rd and 4th. Cruising speed was between 105-115km/h with a lot of overtaking trucks between 125-140km/h and it used around 11L/100k!!!! Not bad for a motor with a few k's under its belt!

My old 2h used to rev at 3500rpm at 160km/h on 35's. It didnt have anymore power after that, so it wouldnt go any faster. The motor doesnt sound real good at those speeds and it gets a little hot....

my poor old 3L doesnt have the guts to get past 140 on 30" tyres... let alone get anywhere near those speeds....

the 1HZ will rev hard too if you give it some

Tho i know from experience that a 3.0TD prado is still pulling hard at 150kph and has about 1200rpm before she redlines to go... :D

If i remember correctly i think it was sitting on around 3000-3100RPM, Only instruments i was quickly scanning over was Speedo, Temp And Oil Pressure, as i just wanted to get back on the right side of the road. my Tacho goes orange at 3500rpm and then red at 4000rpm so i dunno where its governed at. At 140km/h it was the hardest ive ever pushed the motor, mind you the bloody thing wanted to keep accelerating, so i had to back off, as the floating feeling is not comforting!!!!!. Normal driving i usually change at 2000-2250 Rpm, up hills i hold it off to around 2500rpm and if im up it (which isnt often) i only let it rev out to 2800rpm.

why would it have to be less? the 12HT is a higher capacity engine and of the same vintage.
