80 Series Noise ?

Post by Moonman »

Ok I've finally got most of the bugs out of the cruiser from the previous owner, who turned out to be one of the
shonky brothers! Anyways there's still one noise that I haven't figured out. It only happens when slowly
deccelerating from cruising speeds (100km/h) and its more of a vibration than anything? If you let your foot
right off its not there but if you back off slowly there's a certain point where you can feel the vibration
though the pedal and hear the reasonably loud buzzing sound.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

I have the same problem in my 80 but only after I fitted a 4' lift.
Dose your truck have a lift, I think the noise my be coming from my uni joints in the rear tail shaft so I would check that Im going to grease my uni's first to see if that help's if not I'll replace them.
Let me know what you come up with as it's sounds like we have the same problem. check out my post it may help

Good luck, i know of 2 80's with the same problem and have tried everything from cvs to diffs to transfer case to gear box, brass bushes in the spindels and they still didnt find the problem ant they are standard height. :bad-words:

Yes the cruiser has been lifted, but its only a 2 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift. Do you think this would
make much difference? I haven't checked the uni's but the noise seems to be coming from the front end,
so i'm not so certain it would be in the tail shaft. The cruiser is a GXL model and has the full time 4x4.
I'll take another look under it next weekend and see if anything stands out...

Im open to any other suggestions before then...

Cheers!

Try and disconnect the front drive shaft and take it for a drive.
