I am in the process of buying a set of 750/16 rekord tyres for my truck.Basicaly a heavy lug/tractor tyre pattern.Has any one had them or know of them.What the are like as far as handling,performance etc?Only speed rated on road to 90 k`s so are prety much a full of road tyre.

I agree Ben, I think the MP trekker would be a better choice, but there are also some very aggressive mine service type tyres made by Sime and MRF that would be far more versatile. Also, swampers are available in 9 32 16 (almost a straight swap for a 7.50) and 9 34 16 which is likely to fit pretty easily on a car than can run a 7.50.
There is no way that these Rotek tyres are intended for the use that you will be putting them to. IMHO they are intended for small site dump trucks (the very small rear steer/front drive type) and the like and the cornering loads and sustained speed you will putting on them will kill them very quickly.
The void ratio is too high to support the weight of the dyna on tarmac- you will get very rapid wear and spooky handling.
I don't really believe that tractor tyres make for a more capable car (in the same size) than an aggressive 4X4 tyre. In most off road situations they will lack lateral grip and their ground pressure will be too high for surfaces with any yield- they will sink and dig holes. The length of the lugs and their placement means that they will tend to fall of of ledges laterally rather than climb them. (I found this with claws)
They will probably be very impressive under power, but I don't imagine the dyna can generate lots of wheel speed.
PS Dynabeast, I had a good look at your car years ago at the Land Cruiser Club property and It is quite impressive.

Gwagensteve I am the second owner of the Dyna.You would have seen it at the Landcruiser park with the origanal owner.I also have found it a very capable 4wd.Very well balanced with it`s mid mounted motor.
These tyres are only going to be used for off road use.I already have a road set of tyres.They will of course have to be used on road getting to the off road bit,but thats about all.As for ground presure verses void and tread surface area,would the likes of mongrels be much diferent?Bugger all tread compared to the void space on them.Sliding side ways,well as you said other 4by tyres are no better.Power to the wheels?That is a problem with the truck.In low range it tends to wheel spin easly.Have to use 2nd a lot for taking off.1st for realy steep climbing.
Bottm line is I will give them a go.The are cheap,less than half price.So if they are crap off road then I will sell them.If anything it will be a bit of fun trying them out.

I have now found out that the tyres were intended for a unimog and were just a very agressive 4wd tyre.The are also rated for limited road use.
