hilux leaf springs whats the best arb dont go there

Post by kinglakekustoms »

hi i was after anyones opinions for the best 2inch or 3 inch lift leaf springs for the front of a 92 hilux.

recently brough a full set of OME 50mm lift leafs from arb for off road use .. after putting them on the my 4wd it did not gain any lift and they sat like a big wavy w.bending backwards.. i am aware that hilux front springs sit fairly flat but these where shocking and after getting several opinions from othe suspension joints they all said theres definatly somthing wrong. so i went back to arb and had a reall deliting converation with the head guy there and in the end he ended up saying arrr if i new you where going to use these springs of road i wouldent have sold you them .
.(.ARB arnt they a 4wd store hence they sell 4wd drive products some 1 corect me if i am wrong..).
after alot of arguing he said bring em back and ill give you your money back so now i gota pull them out agian and take there crap back.

so if any 1 could advise me of some brands that will be a good realiable option it would be great and much apreciated.thanks

Sounds like you had petrol springs in a desiel.

I don`t think there are any off the shelf leaf springs that are any good.

Discussed suspension with ARB for my truck.

I was so impressed I am going somewhere else for any suspension changes. :?

I've had two sets of OME, first ones went in in 1990, last set went in 6 months ago, the vehicle did 250,000k on the last set, it has done now 35k on the new set, The vehicle has been around oz twice, reguarly goes 4wdriving on most weekends, has OME shockies as well which have just been replaced as above with same klms, it only has 2 inch lift which is noticable over the standard height, has 31's on it, and even the old springs still had the u shape just started to sagg a bit on the front end only still has the original OME in the back from 1990 and still sits up ok even fully loaded in the canopy with a camper trailer behind me. Who ever told you that OME are no good for off roading are full of shit, even coming from arb or tjm, as I got my springs from TJM and the shockies from ARB, if you want to go and climb 4 foot walls then it will take you a lot more than OME and a 2/3 inch lift, not having a go at you by any means but the wanker that you dealt with, maybe you should ring up there head office and tell them what he said, bet he wont have a job for long, and if your springs are flat or bending the opposite direction its the pins and where the springs sit on top of your diff that are R/S and will need to be machined to get back to original. mate, i got EFS in mine, (2in). quite happy. they do everything i expect of them.
40000ks , no dramas yet. They come in 2 & 4 inch lift
get the 4inch shockys with the 2inch lift but as i dont reckon the 2in. shockys were giving enough travel

just whacked ARB dakar springs on my 1992 hilux.

went HD in the front, and MD in the rear- as i dont carry much weight a lot of the time.

The drivers side front spring is a HEAVIER spring- you DID get them the right way round, or get given the right springs didnt you? they stuffed that one up when i got mine and i had to wait for the right one to be ordered in.

i got 70mm lift from my original factory ones, and now im saving up the money for the OME shocks to go with them.

Maybe it's just the dickheads at ARB dandenong. heard
they had a big staff turnover in recent times.

At any rate they have turned me off ARB purely through
poor customer service and an unwillingness to provide much info.

A smile and a helpful, freindly approach goes a long way when
selling to me, almost as much as a discount.

On top of that most of what they sell can be purchased elsewhere in
one form or another.

Walked into TJM in dandy and they were very pleasent to deal with.
As are some of the local smaller 4B shops.

Cheers.

Go back to ARB and talk to the Manager again. Tell him that you have posted this problem on "several" 4wd sites (dont tell him which ones) to get advice on what to do.
Tell him that you have had a lot of people asking to reply the outcome with ARB.
ARB dont like bad publicity -- There is too much competition out there.

went to arb today and after the guy there telling me last week to pull em out and bring em back and he will either give us a new set or rufund us.... .he said nope i cant refund them bla bla bla bla wich they are clearly the wrong springs when he checked em ..... and after a lot of arguing he still refused to help me in any way he said he would send them of to be tested so now my rig will be off the road for another couple of weeks which is a huge inconvenience.
This all prooves once agian the people at arb thomastown dont no shit about 4x4s or 4x4 products and we wil definatly never be going there agian ....VERY DISAPOINTED. :x :bad-words:

we have found most aftermarket springs shite. take your car to ram springs in thomastown and tell him what you want to achive. you'll get twice the result for half the price. you can alter the main leafs to move your axle to where it should be. some kits have too much curve for how long they are and it moves the axle too far back/forward depending on if its front or rear shackle.

Mate if I can get serious for a moment.

ARB are a large corporation with many stores and you and I have probably found a couple of the minority of stores staffed by wankers.

All large corps have complaints departments and pay people to ensure there agents (stores) perform to the levels that will give them the good name they strive for.

It is well worth the effort to contact ARB head office and make a complaint.
Either look them up and send an email or walk into there store in Kilsyth one day and ask for someone to look at the springs you are not happy with.

Whilst there if you are not getting the attention you reckon you deserve, complain loud and long but remain inoffensive. I've done it with suppliers before every minute you stand there arguing your case is another minute they risk losing the next customer who walks in the door.

Do not be embarased to do this, if they have ripped you off you have a right to complain.

If this doesnt work whack on a balaclava and throw a brick through the offending stores window.

Cheers.

Luv the TURKEY SLAP EM!!!!!

Some ARBs are shit stores, when in Sydney, dont go ARB Northside. No service UNLESS you buy something really expensive and DONT have any real hard technical questions where they waste their time (time is money after all) talking to you!.

OR, go to ARB Southside at St Peters, Ive had no end of great service, even let me use their workshop one saturday to remove one of their bullbars I smashed into a rock.....not many workshops do that!!

in the end we ended up recievinga credit note ... NOT our money back still very unhappy..they still get our money in the end

.will prob sell the credit note on ebay so we get our money back ..

we ended up taking our old springs that where on the car down to brown springs in thomastown
exeptional service very good ppl their

they took our old 50mm lift springs wich where shagged and put a new support leaf in them reset them all
they ended up 60mm lift wich is good to compensate for some saging

.anyway there not on the car yet but they look alot better than what arb gave us
putting them on this weekend should be good i will post report up and post some picks of it with the new four inch suspension lift

is it a new leaf replacing old or an extra leaf?? if you go adding an extra leaf you will prob limit your cars suspention travel, especially if you went thicker
