Disco Wading plug/bolts ??

Post by amshaw »

Hi All,
Does anybody know what size the wading plugs/Bolts are for a 97 Disco TDi 300 & ZF Auto?

It feels like a fine thread, a bit bigger than 1/2" (or is that 12.5mm??)

Oh an idea of length and kind of bolt might be good too please (alloy, brass, mild steel, s/steel, HT etc etc ??)

It fits on the bottom of the bellhousing. Thought I had better "fill the hole" as Im getting into more and more mud.

I got a couple of brass barbs from Pirtek and ran a length of hose off them up to the engine bay; thats for the bellhousing and auto trans of my 300tdi. 1/4bsp doesn't look right, more like 7/16 according to my ruler....Chris.

1/4" means the pipe size, not the thread size. They are pipe plugs.

Why would you put a hose on a drain fitting and route it UP. How is it going to drain??

Jobs right now :) ....got my bolts and they are 1/2" x 1" USB. Seems stange as I posted this elsewhere and I got everthing between 1/4"-3/4" from differant people :? .....but either way my holes are plugged so I can hit the mud and not worry about it to much   ;)

Trust me, it is 1/4" BSP.

1/2" UNF will fit as will 1/4" NPT, but they are not the same thread form.

See this chart
http://www.mdmetric.com/tech/tict.htm

1/4" BSP = 13.16mm OD, 19 tpi, whitworth thread form
1/4" NPT = 13.571mm OD, 18 tpi, UN thread form
1/2" UNF = 12.7mm OD, 20 tpi, UN thread form

Ok Ok Mate I trust you :)

After thinking about what you have said I will get some 1/4" BSP from a local plumping shop if they have any.

I wanted to go for a play in the mud with all this rain we are getting....and just had the shits up and wanted to stop stuffing about and get those hole's filled   ;) so now I will need to get the others out :?

Red, reason for the hose on the barbs is that instead of putting in a plug, and it not draining, with clear hose you can see if theres any fluid there and pluck the hose off if necessary, while still preventing mud etc getting in....Chris.
