351 clevo + tb42 auto in GQ

Post by NightmareBlade »

having just bought a rather tired '90 maverick, am having thoughts about dropping a 351 clevo into it. problem is, i want to keep the auto, and i cannot find anyone to supply an adapter for this setup. does anyone know about this conversion?

forget the patrol auto its not worth the hassal and the inflated repair prices

either put a 4speed ford auto box behid it ( if there is an adapter kit to suit)
or chev it and put the th700r4 behind it

OR

if you dont care for overdrive put a c6 behind it

Which 4 speed ford auto would you use?

The electronic ones from EA forward would be a pain in the arse because they are electronic. What other ford 4 speed autos are there?

Use the 4AOD Auto out of the early US Fords. The early ones were hydraulic, the later ones are electronic, and will need a module to run them.

i remember reading on here somewhere about a valve body replacement for the patrol box that has been tested for 620 hp. That, a temp guage, and a coverter lock was $1000 if memory serves. wouldnt that negate the need for rebuilding the box?

It does nothing for worn out or tired and sloppy Autos.

There is a guy in VIC who builds Trimatics for Dragcars, they are a very good box, when built up, as they are light weight, and don't cause much drag. I believe they will handle well over 650hp....

I thought Dellow did a bellhousing to mate a 351 to the GQ auto.

Not that I am saying this is a good plan, just that the adaptor seems to exist.
