interseted in buying a bullbar for my 98 gu which has airbag and flares....the guy selling it doesn't know anything except it suits 98 onwards...which correct me if i'm wrong but series 1 are different to series 2..ie wont mount straight up.
how can you tell if it suits a airbag model or not and if it will suit a wide wheel type?....cheers..buzn.

Air bag bars have the soft bumbers on the front off the bar to absorb light bumps.

They probably have a sticker on them somewhere as well, there's one on my cruiser bar saying it's non airbag.

I have an airbag compatible winch bar on my non airbag GU ute. I has the rubber bumpers and also some fold up looking twin plate mounting setup, which i gather will fold up with a good hit. It won't anymore 'cos we welded it up but maybe it had something to do with the airbag. It originally came off an airbag wagon.
Cheers................Pete!

Is it genuine or ARB etc?
get the part number off it and check with the manufacturer.
Rubber buffers do not necessarily equal an airbag bar.

Mine is ARB and the rubber bumpers just look like they are covering up the untidy bits of the uprights? I could be wrong though..........Pete!

The way to tell if the bar is air bag compatable is to look at the mounts behind the front face of the bar, if you look at the end of the chassis of the car you will see that it has several small folds in the ends of them and this is the crush zone of the chassis. The bull bar will have an adjustable bolt on the bar for each rail and when you fit the bar and all the mount bolts are tight you then need to wind the adj bolts out until they touch the end of the chassis and then lock them up soas if you have an accedent the bar is in direct contact with the chassis and wont effect the crumple zone so to speak.
Dont get to worried about hitting things as you need to consetener the chassis for the bag to go of so you need a pretty big hit to do this.
Ive hit banks, trees and a rock pritty hard and still the bags are fine,if the bags do go of from hitting something you wont be driving the car home i can asure you of that
Cheers Darren
