33" tyres under GQ

Post by McJeff »

Hey,

I was wondering if i can put 33" on stock GQ (suspension lift)? Assuming the spring doesn't sag at all.

I need answer soon as my GQ needs more traction in wet weather and I'm sick of not able to drive straight in wet. And i've seen more 33" tyres for sale than 31" ones.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

I have 3" lifted suspension (which actually gave me more than 4" over the sagged springs that were in the car when I bought it) and my 33x12.5" MTRs still rub a bit on the flares.

yes, but they'll rub on your mud flaps and rip them off out bush. Nothing a 2" body lift won't fix

Are you after mud tyres or road tyres?

find if somone nearby will let you fit 33's. Then just ramp it up on something and see how you go. They may fit. And if they do rub it will most likly only be the mudflaps.

Ok, I'll test when I find a set for sale or someone that is free this week for me to come and check it out (I'm at Frankston South) I needed it sorted soon or my tyres will worn out.

PM me if anyone got a set for sale, doesn't matter which tread type as long it's cheap because I won't use the transfer case for a while (treads must be legal enough to pass rwc).

I put 33's on mine with a sagging 2" suspension lift. Rubs on front mud flaps on full lock, and I have replaced the fibreglass flares with rubber ones.

Hey

I have a swb and with a 2" suspension and 2" body they still rub on full flex on the fiboglass flairs, nothing I can't deal with, just cracks the flairs every now and again, but worth it hey!!

cheers

Ok, seeing there is various answer, wheel offset is one of most important role in fitting of these rims/tyres.

Anyone has 33" that I could test-fit to see if it rubs or not... Or has 31" for sale with rims? PM me if you do.

I had 33 x 10 BFG MTs on 15 x 7 sunnies with a 2" lift. I removed the mud flaps and all was good no rubbing etc

33's will be ok and will rub weather no lift or 6 inch just depends where.

cruiser offest rims 8 inch will help inner guard rubbing (not a big issue at all)

if your running 7 inch rims try for 32 11.5 but a pretty rare tyre and generally as dear as 33's

and at full locks 33's will hit mud guards but if you bend bracket on these and bend back/push in you should be fine..

just put them on thoough if chasing better handling this is debateble

Another question guys, (sorry for off-topic).

Will 31x10.5x15 fill the guard without flares of any kind (patrol offset) Bec my pootrol didn't come with one, If not, I'll just get rubber strips off clark rubber and screw it on guards.

yes 31 10.5 tyres fit under the guards nicely without flares on nissan 15x7 rims i run these as road tyres that way you dont loose power by runnin big tyres not to mention the fuel it'll chew runnin big rubber. if for road and sand use stick with 31s

Went see a guy who's selling the rims & tyres, front sticked out a little and rears should be fine, hopefully it doesn't attract cops attention!

And will get flares though in case the cops tell me to...

Hey,

Traction saga has been sorted! Thanks to Dave (Offtrack), very helpful bloke and i'm very impressed with the handling these 31" gives. He certainly has picked the right moment to sell his set of 31" just in time when I was shopping around.

Will book a appointment for wheel alignment next week just to be sure.

Might take it to muddy paddock see how it holds up with the power of RB30ET under my big, black bonnet.

And my GQ now looked very tuff with these rims without flares.

That is all from me.

Cheers
