as it says..
i have a DTS turbo on my 2.8 and was quoted some $800 to get a compensator fitted to my fuel pump. Was wondering wether I can jsut change my fuel pump with one from a turbo surf? or at least the compensator?
My fuel pump at the moment has an High altitude compensator on it if that makes a difference?

I have been looking into all this stuff the last couple of weeks thinking of getting my old girl turbo'd, one place is $3270 including new exhaust and dyno before and after the other place I rang was $5370 with the compensator as part of the kit, they told me there is certain parts inside the pump that had to be modified to make the compensator work properly, needless to say I went the cheaper option, have since rang a few turbo places since and all have told me except 1 place that they are not required on the 2.8 as they adjst the pump to suit all driving condition, they reckon its just a money spinner for people to pay nearly 2k just for that I dont think so. Point is they said you need to pull pump apart to set it up properly if thats any help to you. Regards Steve M
Hi there whitenight, yeah I would say so in regards to getting the pump recalibrated to suit the 2.8, have a look at a web site called www.turboglide.com.au and look up the page for turbo's then look up the specs eg torque, kilowatty gain etc, whiteknight wrote:hmm.. so if i find a pump from a 2.4 Surf will it bolt straight up to the 2.8 ?
will it be big enough to supply the fuel req'd? I take it I would need to get it re-dyno'ed after the new fuel pump went on

The 2.8 and 3 litre Hilux turbo kit has been designed for towing and open road running using a T25 wastegated Garret turbocharger. This kit has been developed to meet the proposed tough new emission laws. Power gain will be on wasted energy presently going into the atmosphere as black unburnt fuel smoke.
The 2.8 and 3 litre Hilux engines utilising the latest technology Garrett T25 turbo gives an improvement of 100-120 Km per tank of fuel with near zero black smoke when pulling. 30% torque and horsepower improvement with reliability and an increase in engine life due to lower oil contamination. Recommended power level adjusted by us on chassis dynameter is 30% torque and 30% horsepower improvement above standard engine specifications. These figures have shown not to shorten engine life or increase fuel consumption. Fuel consumption figures have shown to improve by approx. 10%.
This turbocharger has uncluttered appearance under the bonnet. It is a simple straight forward reliable installation not requiring the placement of a hole in the side of the sump for oil drain from turbo, but utilises an existing drain presently in engine block.
Includes full before and after dyno report with fitment. Although turbo kit is capable of far more power output than stated, we have found by experience that shortened engine life will be experienced when adding 40-50% power gain above standard engine output.
