I love mine :D Plenty of power when needed. Mines done around 250k and its all good. They are a bit thristy but if you drive conservtive on the highway its not too bad. All i do is change oils and filters when i feel like it :D

Yep I agree with RV

As for maintenance, I think they are fairly easy to work on, lots of space, no fancy covers hiding anything. Only had mine for a few months and done the full service exc tappets myself (they dont need doing yet), takes some time but I dont like to rush!!!

Want to dyno mine to check on the setup, its no slouch but want to see what power and torque it has so can drive to best use it!

top piece of automotive machinery mate. had mine for 2 tears now and though ive spent heaps its 100% on mods.

ive always been a big believer in "prevention is better than cure" so just recently i had the starter and alternator fully rebuilt while i was getting new bearings in the a/c before they break when i needed it most. having said that they were working fine up till that point.

bought mine with 105k and its now just rolled over 170k and shes never left me standed ever.

and you wont worry about fuel when you feel the power. im currently looking at the unichip engine management upgrade at the moment cos if alot of power is good then heaps is better. will let you know how it goes if i go ahead.

cheers

hey lad had mine 3 1/2 years had 190000 when bought got 260000 now never had problem i just do all the oils reg
as for gearing and power i dont notice much diff it is not a race car with 35,s but in the bush you got plenty of power in low it does run away a bit but thats a combo of petrol and big tyres
think bout the price man when i bought mine they wanted 10k more for td it takes a long time to use 10 k of fuel
go the pettys

cheers mick

when i had 33s the gearing was acceptable but when i went to 35s it wanted to run away too much when needed good engine braking. since changing gears to 4.56 on road performance is equivelant to standard and off road first is now super slow. money well spent in my books.

i get 500km out of 90L or 18L/100km but more when off rd

ran mine for 100,000km, 2 aus safaris were done on that engine, which was turbo intercooled running 10 psi boost, and 36's, and the gearbox needed a rebuild at 82000km, but the engine went out of that car after it was sold into another 80 running lpg and 20 psi boost, and had a long life.

Good service intervals, adjust the valves regulary, use lexus oil filter, and mobil 1 or another very good oil, and they are very reliable, only the 93 model suffered a flat spot problem, and a fuel treatment, and cleaning the throttle body etc can go a long way to fixing this.

Advancing the timing on them is also a good low down torque boost.

I am the fan off, if its a 4by you want then it has to be diesel.

What motor where you looking at getting the 4.0 or the 4.5?

I know of a few people with cruisers with all the motors and none really seem to cause any trouble as long as regulary maintained. The petrol motors do cost a bit more to run though IMO.

Mine is an 94 model, had trouble with a flat spot. Other than that its the best. The only real problem i have is that i cant stop spending money on modding it.

Not sure about 15`s on the fronts on 95 on :? bigger front brakes and all.
Would asume there is away around it as most big tyres are on 15" rims.

Stay away from the early 80`s with the carby`s on the 4.0lt 3FE the 3FE injected seem ok. Think they went to 4.5lt in late 92.

15's fit on the front without any mods but you have to do some grinding to the calipers to fit them on the back. Or you can do what i did just bolt them on and start driving, and it'll soon have the required clearence :D

80 series in all motor formats are a excellent machine. I got mine with 180000 on the clock, its up to 350000 now and outside redoing the head due to the original gas setup not being done properly, has not skipped a beat. I get 350km out of 120ltr gas tank and around the same on 95ltr petrol. Put the stubby stick in and hit 5000 in the bush and it drops to about 250km. I run 35" tyres and have a full roof rack. When I first got the truck she was standard and I could get nearly 700 out of each tank on the highway.

Would love to know what the secret is to getting those sort of k's. :?
That's 13 litres per 100 k's.
I think the best I have ever got was about 15l per 100 and that was driving as carfull as I could all on highway.
Normally it ranges between 17 to 22 depending on how hard I drive it.

They are a great car and a great motor with plenty of power.
But an expensive motor to run, as far as fuel goes. (Well in my experience.) But power cost money and is worth every cent.
