Range Rover Prices
Just thinking out loud here, but what sort price does everyone think you would be looking at for an '88 Rangie?
I was thinking around the $3k mark but maybe I am just dreaming.
I went to Fowles auction today in melbourne as there was an '88 up for sale. The old classics don't come up much anyore at the auctions because......there too old. I thought i might get a bargin.
Passed in at $3200!

rangie
If you watch the trading post, car sales etc they do come up every now and then.
I picked up a 90 model rangie in November last year in Brissie for $3500, had been in the trading post for a couple of weeks. Started at 3900 no one had actually gone to look at it. Reasonable condition, front and rear alloy bars and side steps, t/b - the normal things for that era. No wood trim though that didn't matter, big change from the old 2 door. Had about 200k on the clock. Didn't have roadworthy. Have replaced most of the rubbers but expect that regardless, tie rod ends etc.
Don't think the previous owners mechanic really new rangies. Fuel lines not tight, one wasn't connected - that was great for the fuel economy -pour it onto the road. Radiator was 80% blocked, nothing too major until I broke the VC housing at Ormeau when I slid and landed the handbrake drum on a rock...bring on the LT230
The alloy bull bar was the first thing to come off, then body lift to fit the Khumo Muds - they look pretty sweet. Alloy rear bar next to be replaced before I remove it offroad
Good luck in your search

I heard that Adrian from Rangie Automotive picked up a 92 Rangie for $1800 with reg.
Did a little bit of work to RWC and is driving it around.
Seriously, you can get early Disco's in decent condition for $3k-$4k.
Don't spend too much if you're gonna cut it up.
The 2nd hand car market has dropped dramatically in the last 5 years.
A mate got offered a 93 Festiva with reg & rwc for $300 the other day!

I think things have really changed in the past 6 months with prices dropping. There are plenty of '86 efi models around for under $3k.landy_man wrote:for an 88 in decent condition, you would expect to pay AT least around $5K ....
for around the $3K mark I would expect to be able to buy a carby 4dr but definatly not an efi i.e. 86+
Yes I do just want to cut it down. But I am not planning on this being just a cheap offroad Rangie. Maybe I am stupid but I want to spend some time and $$$ and build up a great car and hopefully bring everything back to near new including full paint job etc etc. I would like the front panel work to be in good condition and I especially want the dash in good condition. I guess almost everything else is getting replaced.
I might have asked this before...but is there anything I will miss out on in an '86 model that I would get in an '88 model?
Thanks,
Adam
