Hi,

I have bought a '91 Sierra for a bargain, but it needs a new clutch (which I knew before I bought it). How much should I expect to pay for it fitted? How much if I do it myself? Is it a very difficult job?

I have one quote of $600 - fitted, flywheel machined and oil top-up... is that reasonable?

Any help is appreciated

Cheers

Hey, I just put a new clutch in my jimny, for a full button clutch kit including spigot and machining it cost $460 but didn't included fitting. A heavy duty clutch was over $100 cheaper. They said it would cost $160 to fit it. As I was over 1500km's from home and a tight arse I decided to fit it in the car park were I was staying with the tool kit i carry in the car (it's pretty basic) It took about 2-3 hours. The box must weigh about 25kg's so it's easy to pull out and put back in by hand (Also pretty easy to drop on you face). Just have to make sure you car is high enough to comftably lie on your back underneath it. The clutch plate I lined up by eye, I think it was a little out but it still went straight in with minimal wriggling. If you do fit it your self go to a clutch and brake company and ask for trade prices. I'm yet to be asked were I work and it will save you a heap ;).

Hope this helps someone. Jimmys

well i just did a clutch , stock standed you need to find out how many teeth on gear box shaft , 18 or 20

18 tooth, std clutch is 185

20 was 243 for the heavy duty of it. I put this one in came with bearing, and instructions, we lined it up by eye, and had a prob as it was 1 mm out so re did it and it slide in great.

I have ordered the Exedy/Daikin kit from the above ebay store.

Cost was $190 + a free alignment tool to my door.
