the EGT in my 75x ute is starting to increase, mainly on a up hill pull, if i back off the go pedal, the temp goes down slightly but also have a major drop in power.
temp will rise to 650 deg .
is my turbo on the way out or could my injector pump need a service
the motor is standard and has approx 150 00 klms and has only had the tappetts set and the injectors serviced.

EGT on a 1HDFT 75x landcruiser

First thing to check should be your fuel filter. Try replacing it and go for another drive.
Too much restriction in the filter causes the injection pump internal pressure to drop, which causes it to retard the timing and thus the EGT's rise.
Are you measuring EGT's pre or post turbo?

thanks for your reply
i changed the fuel filter and went for a drive, made a little bit of difference but bugger all.
the air filter is clean so it really has no restrictions.
at idle it is starting to get a miss .
i shall pull the injector pump off and send it away to be checked.
have to start somewhere

Probably a few things you could check, or have the fuel shop check on vehicle.
Stick a vac gauge in the fuel inlet pipe and make sure there's no fuel restriction, even though you changed the filter the pickup screen (if fitted) could be partially blocked.
Have you got a boost gauge, is the boost the same as it was before the EGT's started to rise? Are the air intake (inc. snorkel, inlet ducts, etc) all clear, i.e. no dead animals, etc?
If all these are OK, then I'd say it's time to take the pump (likely) and injectors (while you're at it) and get them checked / tested / calibrated. $$$$

g'day greg
i have done all the simple checks you have listed, no difference or restrictions.
have done the injector crack test and still has the miss at idle.
i have rang around for the injectors and pump to be checked/overhauled and i am removing them this week and getting them done.
shop will have them for the best part of 4 days so i will not have it back on the road till next week i shall let you no how it all goes
looking at injectors approx $800
reco of pump starts at $700 and up depending on extra parts ect

$800 sounds a bit steep to reco injectors.tobie wrote:g'day greg

at 150thousand there should be nothing wrong with the injectors.
The Toyota DI injectors are twin stage, and so take more time to set up correctly. It certainly doesn't sound abnormal to me.
At 150k kms they chould be OK, but so should the pump. It's very dependant on the quality of the fuel and filters which have been used.
I'm guessing the previous service history is unknown, and if the vehicle has a problem and you want it fixed you have to start somewhere. At that mileage the pump should be OK, but the calibration will be out.
