September LRE and a quick scan though shows that the new defender engine is definatly 2.4 twin overhead cam four valve per cylinder diesal out of the transit, it keeps the r380 and does not get the six speed out of the transit and the big bad news for you vent lovers they have gone and the air con is moved to centre of dash, guess that gives some knee space back

Shame about the auto. I reckon I would have got one if it came with the six speed. Oh well.

To me it essentially looks like the current defender. What happened to all the hype of it being based on the current disco platform. If I had the money for a new car i would buy one if it came with the disco's diesel and auto along with improved interior. I think the current platform is fine maybe a little overpriced...

If you think the old one is over priced can you imagine what they going to charge for it now? my guess is around 70K

UK press recently cited the UK factory was 'safe' for at least the next couple of years cause LR had got an order from Italy for 1500 of these plus stronger sales elsewhere. So, perhaps there's not much incentive or need to change it much. Looks like LR's doing the Toyota thing!

Still looks tough though

those pics have been around a while now...
most on the UK forums believe that it is NOT what the "new" Defender will look like... and apparently, 1 bloke knows someone who works on production line.. and he reckons those pics are crap...

anyways.. they shooting themselves in the foot if it is...

oh.. and on the exterior pics.. you can still see the vents ;)

yes but as we know the vents on 110 county's here in oz from the 80's wern't able to be opened.

and landrover doing the usual cheap and nasty won't want to make a new bulkhead as tooling would change etc and probably cost more so my guess is they glue/silicone them shut and have no push/pulls inside.

it never ceases to amaze me how such a good idea can be constantly screwed up. the idea of the landrover has got so much potential, there is a market worldwide for it. but the dumb pricks think they have to give in to plastic and bells/whisltes to sell these..... wrong thats what all the other vehicles in there marque are for.

im just going back into the corner now..... to get back tto hitting my head against the wall.

serg

oh and do you think that anyone from managment in LR reads any of these forums like OL, Pirate, Aulro and LR addict

they might learn something about the vehicles and the people buying/owning them

im praying that for the first time in history for landrover that they bring it out with oversized axles, steering linkages and uni's instead of tooth picks for the last 50 years, they have a habit of always having so many good things and falling short with so many little things, love/hate relationship with a rover

What the 2007 LR SHOULD HAVE.

9"+ crownwheel front diff
Salisbury Rear
1.5" axles
4 inches more track
BIG ass CVs
Big ass rear trailing arms
Sway bar disconnects
standard Aux fueltank
ARB bar or similar STANDARD
Steering linkage run on the front side of the diff up high.
4L+ turbo intercooled diesel with new 4.2 petrol v8 option
Better looking mags with BFG all terrains atleast
updated dash with Firewall vents
2 inch wider body to help with track coverage
1 inch wider flares on each side to help with the track increase
Less front and rear overhang - Longer wb- 114?

And finally, a partnership between Maxidrive and Land rover so all options will be covered by the factory warranty.

Somebody email all these suggestions to the factory before it's too late!

.....but somehow I doubt that any will be taken on board

I agree, its too late for them now. I think they stopped listening after the County and Defender era actually - some may say they never listened AT ALL!!

Sounds like someone was full of shit..... :D

The specs on the new motor sounds woeful.

63:1 crawl ratio sounds good. A tad more torque can't be bad, and frankly if the thing has better heating/air con, who the hell cares what the facia looks like? ;)
Not sure about the bonnet bulge, but with steel wheels, black grille/surround and no air con nose it'll probably look fine. It's just that the only pics the press get nowadays are the nasty looking XS models - too much chequer plate and silver aerosol paint.

Looks like they've removed the wheelarch boxes from the 90 wagon to make room for the new seats, which to be honest look more comfortable than the fronts!

I hope to god they've moved the second row seats back a bit in the 110 wagons.

Seamus.

PS I don't like the LAND ROVER lettering on the bonnet edge either. :bad-words: :)

6 speed manual, 62-1 low range (1st). axles, cv's and diffs will be so much easier to break....yay

i wonder if they still use the lt230 transfer case.

the engine sounds ok to me

Still no damn AUTO!!! but i guess with a 6 speed i can leave it in 3rd and never change gears

Motor sounds a little under powered if you want to tow anything real big.... but only time will tell!

Hmm would seem they have gone a little backwards in there choice of engine, looking at there power figures they are very similar to the 300tdi

The new v8 diesel for next years Rangie sounds sweet 200kw @4000rpm and a massive 640nm @ 2000rpm
6sp ZF auto
11litres/100klm combined driving
43 to 1 low range first gear

I'm off to buy a tatts ticket :D

That combo in the new Defender would be awesome. I bet LRA would sell a lot more Defenders too.

ha same old same old.for how long have Land Rover done a half baked job.they have a market full of BLING SUVs so what do they do,just tart it up and send it out. use the same weak diffs and axles for 50 years.wonder if they have same 100 year old bloke wiring the things up.if so thats great, there is nothing like having all the dash lights go off for no reason at all.just what you need to get you ready on your way to the night club in your BLING SUV.why change a good motor for this Ford thing.Land Rover should come down under and get an idea what people want and need.do this and they would sell a SHIT load of the things. what we dont need is more BLING SUVs.what we need is a real DEFENDER..

the ford donk is a pos i will tell you right now. and the 6speed is probly same as transit too. the td5 was a real sweet engine why go backwards the artical never said anything about the diffs and axels but the sals rear with decent axels would be fine its that 10 spline front that just junk

was talking to a mate today who drives a ford transit van...... has to tow about 3tonne all day everyday plus stock in the van (plumber)..... parently the diesel sucked at it so his boss got a holden v6 motor fitted to the van.... now they are happy! He said it flys even with the backo on the trailer!!

Did you see the Top Gear episode where they drove a diesel Ford Transit van around the Nurburgring in 10 minutes (very fast). They had a specialist race driver and were passing Porsches and motorbikes in a van.
