Rolled guards

I'm runnig 35" mudzillas and having trouble finding something to extend the guard does anyone know how much width I will get from getting them rolled wider like they do on street cars? I've probably got tyre sticking out 4 to 5 inches and that rubber stuff you buy is only 2 maybe 3 inches.
Personally I dont care if the tyre sticks out but the poo-lice seem to

alot of people are runnin the garden edge roll it comes in 2 widths and you can pick it from bunnings
its a hard plastic and about $30 from memory

You would be lucky to gain an inch, maximum 2, by rolling your guards, as it is simply stretching/deforming the panel + you paint would be shot after rolling the guards that much.

I used the garden edging on my patrol. It was about $40 from memory which will make 5 flares. It's available in 3 inch, 6 inch & 12 inch.

Im about to go through this with my suzuki as the tyres stick right out.
It is going to look so shite and the bunnings stuff isnt going to do the job as its not wide enough.



Ive got some plastic sheet that is about 5mm and am going to try to bend it into the inside of the wheelarch. It is actually worse than in the pic as the original flares are not on it anymore. I prolly have about 6 inches of tyre to cover.

Im interested to see what you are going to do

Hey nice pic back to the future boy, I would have thought that in the year 2099 you would be able to get 12" unobtainium flairs at Bunnings

Just trying to picture the garden edging sizes, you sure they didn't have stuff wide enough?

I used the 150mm stuff and I have heaps of it under the gaurd still. But i'm sure there was wider again....

Have a look at Matt McInnes did with his fj40 (Penrite 40) in the members thread. He basically made an outline of the original guard but much wider to cover his tyres then filled it in with the bunnings job. Looked very schmick and has the benefit of giving your panels some protection to cause you now have built in scrub bars.

why not put some of the 12in rubber ones on, bog it up to a good shape, and them get some fiberglass matting and resin and make some glass ones, paint them and fit them.. would look much neater.

Its that wide because it has cut n flipped rims. They are just standard zook diffs. The rig only gets driven off road and it obviously helps the stability on the terrain that we drive around here. Im contemplating selling them though as i measured roughly how wide the flares are going to have to be.......35cm's. Its going to look shite as!

would just about work, I bounced into a tree at trials last year with bunnings flares on and bent the gaurd, brake the snorkel but the flares were intact

You could fit flares off the later Rocky or Feroza with those wide flares.

Will try the bunnings shite but dont think there is enought steel there because of the rust. Was hoping that rolling the gaurds would also stretch the inner gaurd enought to weld a new seam.
Was at court today and found out the Queen is trying to take my car off me what the F does she want with a toyota 4runner? Maybe she just has good taste. After finding this out all mods are of untill they get it or I keep it. Anyone got 4 bald tyres on steel rims?

Made mine out of 50mm rubber from Clark Rubber.

It is rivited on to some 12X12mm aluminium angle and slots in to the existing slots from which the standard flare mounts to.

Only cost me $25 total.

P.S. these are covering 35" mtrs on 60 series diffs.

Yeah, you would need some kind of fibreglass flares that make the mudguard look a bit more bulky I reckon, just a flat flare on its own would look too weird.

I would have thought you could pinch fibreglass flares off some other make of fourby though... just can't think which

ive seem some zooks with jeep flares/gardes if you could fit those then you would need a little bit of garden shiat!!

I had my Patrol on its side twice with thoses flaires on. I've wrecked my rear quarter and front guard but didn't damage the flares.

The zook is currently registered and i need the flares for the Willowglen competition that is coming up. They said they are being strict on tyres being covered up this year.
