Engine tacking under load

my engine is tacking when it is under load. only thing that has changed recently is the oil. Could this be the cause? GM 6.5 diesel.

Only thing I can think of is if the oil was a different brand it may hold a different additive package-the extreme pressure additives that is. Sometimes it takes a while for the new ep additives to bed in as the old ones need to be removed however fast that happens.

What oil before and after?

It wasn't an oil you could buy at super cheap or Kmart was it? hard to find a quality oil in those shops just the marketed crop of -average- to the great unwashed.

supercheap carry shell rimula-X which is a great oil.

Sounds like tappets perhaps, new oil may be a bit thinner or something?

The new oil was Repco's own branded stuff. Might change it again.

That repco oil is fairly decent stuff, it is a re-bottled Mobil oil forget which but a good oil none the less. There are better ones out there though for quite a bit less.

I had trouble with my 6.5 when running the shell diesel oil you get in the 10 litre from supercrap. When it heated up it would lose heaps of oil pressure to the point of i had to shut it off.
Put penrite diesel 20-60w in and now running fine.

Yes yachts do tack. A little while ago my Zook started to "tick" under load and it was the exhaust manifold. Check it out, easy fix.
