trans went pop :(
when i got home today and did a U turn to park out front, the trans didn't feel right.... like it had slipped. I stopped in front of my house and put it in forward and reverse... driving backwards and forwards a couple of feet.... went forward, trans went bang, now no drive at all.... making a loud whirring sound as well i'm hoping it's only the adaptor between the motor and torque converter... but it sounds internal..... any thoughts?

What caused it?waynejo1 wrote:sounds just like what happen to me its not good cost just over a grand 3 years ago striped the spine out of the convertor lucky it happen at home i was camping out about 300k's from home had to hire a 4x4 to get the camper and the kids home a very expensive easter in the end
This is not legal advice.
i was told its common it just the weakest link in the chain i had it replaced with a heavy duty one had to get the transmision flushed out cause off the medal and then had it sevice twice in a month just to make sure the fillings were gone i never had another problem and it been around australia since

showed a mate.... he cringed badly when he heard it When you rev it a little, and turn the engine off, you can hear something grinding as it winds down I don't think anything is missaligned.... the torque converter and everything else lined up perfectly when it was bolted together..... when i got it serviced back in June.... the mechanic said that the internals were not the healthiest he has seen..... and wouldn't guarantee the longevity of it all.... he said maybe 12 months, maybe less I'm going to try to get him to come over tomorrow and listen to it.... i'm hoping it's only the torque converter... that would be easier to replace than the entire transmission. The minister for finance nearly shit when i told what it would cost to replace the transmission The downside to it all is that now i have to forego the front locker and new diff gearing

the auto is excellent! half the problem is i didn't have it set up properly when i first did the conversion and damaged it internally.... although, i doubt it has anything to do with burned clutch packs..... if it's not terminal, i might look at getting the extreme shift body for it

When I got my auto rebuilt last year I got the torque convertor strengthen. I think they do extra welding around the spline or something like that. I don't really know but it cost sweet FA so well worth doing.
Also a manualised auto will piss all over a manual as long as it is keep cool enough. Saying a manual is better is like saying leaf spring are better. IMHO

How come you didn't use the Holden TH700R4 Auto behind the 5 Litre instead of the costly Ni$$an peice of shit ? Just wonderingPatrolden wrote:when i got home today and did a U turn to park out front, the trans didn't feel right.... like it had slipped. because i was assured that the nissan auto was good enough to handle it..... and it would have cost me more to purchase a TH700 for it.... i was almost in the divorce court as it was told the wife the conversion would cost 4 grand, possibly 5 at the most ended up costing me about 8 with engineering. Like i said, initially, i had dramas with the TPS and cooked the trans a few times..... whether or not this has any bearing on it, i don't know.GQPatrol V8 wrote:How come you didn't use the Holden TH700R4 Auto behind the 5 Litre instead of the costly Ni$$an peice of shit ?
