CQ Offroad Club Inc. is holding the inaugural CQ Off Road Challenge 2006 in Rockhampton on 16/17 September. The event will be held at Seeone Park (just past Access 4 on the Rockhampton/Yeppoon Rd.) - the same venue that hosted the enormously successful Round 2 of the XWC.
The CQ Off Road Challenge 2006 is a 3 car team event modeled along similar lines to the amazingly successful Logan Challenge competitions. Eight teams have committed to start and there is still room for a few more (if you get in quick). The entry fee is $300 per team. Full details (including nomination forms and contact numbers) are available at http://www.cqoffroad.org.au/challenge.htm or Email me directly president@cqoffroad.org.au if you can’t find what you want to know.
If you can’t raise a Team, come along and support the event as a spectator. We’re also interested in hearing from folks who have experience as Marshals (or those who are prepared to learn !).
Camping (including hot showers) is available on site. We are currently working on securing on-site catering.
This event has been made possible through the extremely generous support of our Major sponsors:
ARB Rockhampton, Tint-a-Car Rockhampton, Ace Exhausts, Campco and Newsome’s Tyre & Mechanical.
Significant sponsorship has also been provided by Advanced Phones, The 4WD Repair Shop, Ponty's Auto Wreckers, All Finanz Solutions Qld., Novus Windscreens and NewTech Networking.
With only 3 weeks to go it’s full steam ahead !
Slick.

Extended CTP Insurance
I have had some feedback that Competitors who had approached Suncorp to secure Extended CTP Insurance for the event were declined.
I spoke with Suncorp's CTP guru's today and they advised me that (following their research) they were now prepared to offer Extended CTP coverage for the event. Apparently each insurer makes their own assessment (based on risk factors) independantly for each event.
SO ! If you have approached Suncorp (and been declined) - you need to front up at the Counter of your local office and try again !
If you encounter "issues" with any other CTP insurer please point them to the Event's web page for further information. Once they see that we are a legitimate Incorporated body (and read the event Rules/Regs etc.) I am confident that they will extend cover.
By the way, there's still room for a few more teams - but don't wait too long !!!

The crew has started to put togethere some very good ideas and tracks to test all capabilitys of different cars and drivers.
So it will be a very fun and exciting weekend for all.
So far there is a broad range off teams ranging from a car that has been in the outback challenge in one team to a couple from the XWC in othere teams and some every day drivers.
But hey guys it still all comes down to team work and how well they hold it togethere for the full 2 days.

Nine teams contested the 1st CQ Off Road Challenge with the day staritng at 7:30am on the saturday. There were 10 SS's to complete before the 6pm cutoff with 8 out of the 10 being XWC standard tracks but longer. Some hills where driven but most where winching and some tracks contained 2 or more winches on the same stage.
About 700 people came through the gates to watch the action and then settle in for the night stage under lights. 7:30pm started the night stage with a short 200m course involving 2 winches. Only 3 of the then 8 teams left competing made it under the DNF. The last team went through just after midnight with the spectators cheering wildly.
After a late night there where 2 SS's to complete on the sunday before a midday wrap up and presentation. Both of these were team based fun events that required minimal 4wdriving but all had fun.
