crazy tacho

by my patrol
Ive just got my patrol back on the road with a new head. now ive noticed that when i drive normal on the road, the tacho makes sudden movements, up and down, any theorys on whats happening? seek help and advice before i break it again.....

check your fan belt as the tacho reads of this if the belt slips will cause that prob

if its a pionts style dizzy maybe incorrect timing,stuffed pionts, or condenser.

These are rare on a diesel engine ;)

sorry mate for the earlier mistake the tacho reads of the altinator & if the belt slips you get a out of wack reading on the guage

mate hads this prob after a creek crossing had mud in the alternator

I assume we are talking TD42 and not RD28 diesel engine?

Tacho sensor is on the front casing just below the alternator and is 2 wires running down from a plug mounted at front of intake manifold to an oval shaped cover plate held in by two 10mm bolts.
