SD33 turbo build-up

Post by mattstar »

Hello all,
I am just about to finish my sd33 turbo build up and thought I would share some info...
My plan was to run a factory set-up just on a sd33, I sorced out a complete set-up( manifolds,turbo just everything!) and got it to me, big thanks to Mark in Syd.
okay first drama, oil feeds and drain, feed was off the vacum pump oil feed at block, just put a T peice there, drain was different as I didn't want to restrict oil flow, so I bent and welded a 24mm pipe straight to the side of the sump(come out 100mm from sump to line up to turbo drain) that was the oil feed and drain sorted, I didn't use the vacum pump drain as it diameter was to small. the next big issue was with the inlet manifolds;
on the N/A motor the injector pump measures air pressure in and out of manifold, differnce is sorted through a diaphram that controls fuel rod.
On the turbo motor it is controlled by the throttle position.
So if I wanted to retain the injector pump I had to get around the problem of fitting a throttle body the to inlet manifold, I overcame this by getting an alloy flanged pipe made, it is 64mm diameter at the round end and goes to an oval at the other side, I also had the b.o.v put on the side of this pipe (behind throttle body)
this allowed me to keep the same injector pump, but now put the throttle body in an awkward position, right between the prefilter and batterybox, with only about 35mm space between the end of the throttle body and bat box edge, I overcame this with more custom pipe work, I can't post pics but could sms if it's that important, the pipe from the turbo goes;
straight 110mm, then 90 deg turn towards firewall, then a 40mm spacer, then 90 deg. turn towards passenger side 1/4 guard then another spacer 30mm followed by a 180 deg. turn down towards the ground, then a flaired peice from 2" to 64mm.
with this set-up I have managed to keep both prefilter and primary filter, in all factory spots.
the next majour drama was the throttle cable, just get another one made.
I am running 8psi, no intercooler (yet) boost guage and plans for pyro when the zorst goes on( at the moment I am just using 3m of 2" pipe so it sounds like a mack truck!
Any more info wanted just ask, I know it would be better with pics but can't sorry!!
