68 TOJO POWER STEERING
CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH INFO ON PUTING POWER STEERING IN MY 68 TOJO UTE PLEASE . JIMMY
Seen one done with a 60series box, mix of 55 and 75 series steering colums. Box was mounted where the relay box usually mounts on the RHF chassis rail. Not a bolt in, but looked feasable to do in the home workshop. He said was a HUGE improvement on origional steering, even before the PS pump was hooked up (using as manual steering).
My old boss was going to do a conversion on his 68 tojo before he sold it, and was told to use a box from an early Toyota crown mounted in the origional spot, not sure of what model tho, 70's i think. the guy who told him had done it to one he had years ago.

60 series with a 75 series intermediate shaft and 55 column is common, easy, and effective. it bolts to the outside of the frame rail (about where your front shock mount is)
crown steering goes where the relay box goes
hilux power steering mounts where your steering box mounts.
but trust me, getting rid of the relay box is worth it, the relay box is another source of slop in the system.

any of them with power steering and a solid front axle i think... you might need to make a spacer that goes between the steering box and the steering box pedistal, because they might not be exactly the samemadjimmy wrote:thanks very much for all the great info now i need to find some parts, any idea on what model hilux?? CHEERS mad jimmy
