Have a v6 commodre with T700 with dual cases in my hilux, just wanted to know if anyone has any shifting problems when shifting in & out of low range?
When i shift the tranfer it seems like the auto is turning the shafts in the transfers and causes grinding. Auto is in neutral when this happens.
Just wanted to know if this is normal or if the auto has a problem?
cheers
Matt

Re: T700 shifting
I was told about that problem by the ppl that rebuilt the transmission that is going into my Kia. It is normal, and the recommended way of going from high to low and back is either very quickly before the output shaft has time to accellerate, or to put the transmission in park and change the tcase gear.Frankenyota wrote:Have a v6 commodre with T700 with dual cases in my hilux, just wanted to know if anyone has any shifting problems when shifting in & out of low range?

George Carlin, an American Comedian said; "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that".
yes but very very minimal
i have a d21 pathy which i put a 3.8 & t700. every now and then when shifting the transfer case, its almost like the output shaft of the t700 would spin up then when you tried to grab dirve (t-case that is) it would cause grinding.
this scared me alot, considering the amount of $$$$ i have spent on the auto box so out of precaution when shifting the t-case i would ALWAYS just switch the engine off, shift the t-case then start the engine again.

i had dual cases behind a T700 in my old lux and i had the same thing happen on many occasions.
to shift the transfer gears i would have to completely stop, put it in park, then shift through to neutral quickly, let the car roll a slight amount to take the load off the drivetrain then shift the t'case gears.

I know when you jack up a vehicle with an auto in neutral, engine running the wheels will turn.
Just didn't think it would spin so much when shiftin the transfer gears, and cause grinding
A auto trnny guy sugguested the front clutch packs in the auto maybe locking up?
sw1 i've been shiftin the transfer with the engine off and this works fine, didn't think this was right though.
