Suspension Setup

Post by jasonmcc »

Hey guys what do u reckon about this setup for my Suzi.

Aftermarket 2'' lifted leafs
Extended shackles
Measure up what shocks i need and get them.
Leave it sprung under, No body lift and just put some 30x9.5" on it.

So does that sound ok?

Also do you have and good places around australia to get reco diffs and gearboxes. As i am in Darwin every shop is shit.

I have problems some time selecting a gears when i have stopped. Is this a stuffed box or are there some bushes in the shifter that coud be stuffed.

Thanks

Dont worry to much about the extended shackles for just 30x9.5's .. if you are going to go with 2 inch springs, they should clear just fine .. (may rub a few seams under the wheel well .. just tap em down gently with a hammer) as for reco diffs etc .. They are pretty simple and just about any diff place should be able to help you out ..
Reco gear box for a Zuk isnt cheap .. most I have seen have been in the $600 range .. I got a rebuild kit for $200 for beaings and synchros etc .. a pleast afternoon in the garage with my Zuk manual and a puller .. I have a nicley functioning box again ..

Note that unless you are building a show truck, rather than trying to achieve lift with the springs, you should be trying to add longer leaves, not necessarily lifted springs. Longer springs will allow more travel.

Another thing to realise is that if you fit springs that are soft enough for your car (i.e. if you are getting the most travel out of them), they will still allow the axel to come right up to the bump stop. This will mean that you will still have just as much clearance under the guards as you would with normal springs - so you may need to space out your bumpstops if you want to run a bigger tyre than a 235x75x15 (28.5") - this tyre is recognised as the biggest tyre you can fit on a stock sierra without rubbing anywhere.

Longer shackles do play a role in allowing more travel out of the your leaf springs as they will allow more forward and backward movement of the spring eye as the the axel moves up and down. However, be sensible with how much extra length you add to the shackle as it will start messing with steering, castor, drive shaft angles etc if you get carried away.

Is your clutch adjusted correctly? Though i guess if it is still not changing when stopped it shouldn't be an issue with the clutch should it?

check that the gates aren't dryed out and stiff in your gearbox. i had a similar problem in my old sierra (reverse wouldn't go in unless forced). i greased them up and it worked fine.

Gates?

Post by jasonmcc »

What u mean by gates, do you just mean the linkage setup in the shifter.

Thanks
