Just a quick question to 22R motor owners.
Last night I was driving along (in some light rain) after leaving
my mates house, and my car starts misfiring.
It wasn't too bad at first just a VW exhaust note. And then when I
was driving it home (another 80-odd Kms), it got a little worse but didn't seem TOO bad.
I have just replaced all the leads, I am going to replace the spark plugs
tonight with some split-fires to see if that jobs her up. I couldn't get the
dizzy cover off cause the bolts were seized and it was dark, it looks dry
as you like and is now covered in WD40 (as are the leads) so I might
check that too.
Anyone else got any ideas? Things I can test?

Rough idle?
Heres something to try at night.
Start your car.
Lift the hood and using a pump spray with water in it spray fine mist around the coil lead where it goes into the coil which should be on your R/H guard looking at the engine.
If you see a major "FAT" blue spark and the engine stalls you have a problem with the coil insulator.cracked or the lead cap not sealed properly.
WD40 will fix the seal problem.

Maybe the rotor button and points are stuffed too.
Going to get a new dizzy at lunchtime hopefully.
Can you do damage by driving it with a slight misfire?

A bit of a misfire won't cause any damage in the short term...long term you could carbon up the head a bit.
