Hi guys, since an engine rebuild (TB42 Duel Fuel) 8000km ago, it' been nuthin but trouble.
When the engine was rebuilt, the head was pressure tested and was supposedly ok. There was a slight gasket leak around no. 6 pot but nothing serious. Head & block checked for straightness - ok. Given a 20000km warranty.
4000km later, coolant loss (500ml / 100km), no. 1 spark plug rusty, running on 5 pots after cold start. Head retested - found ok, gasket was not pulled down properly around no. 1, new head bolts used (was told stretched head bolts caused gasket to leak around no. 1) All fixed under warranty.
2000km later, same symptoms AGAIN!
Is it likely that current testing methods are not finding the crack in the head, or is it possible there is a crack in the block?
This is giving me the s#&*s.

whos doing your work? if your doing the head gasket they should have sent the radiator to be serviced, replaced all required hoses, replaced the thermostat ect. Its standard practise to replace all head bolts on any head job you do. me thinks it comes down to where your getting the work done, one stuff up human error or just bad luck but three times to fix a leaking head gasket is very poor. at least its all under warrenty right. but my segestion is to keep your cool with the mechanics, be understanding but not giving, you shouldnt have to pay anything at all. then start taking it somewhere they know what they are doing. you get better work and respect out of people if your a nice bloke. if your a tosser the techs on your vehicle might adopt the therory out of sight out of mind and do an ordinary job
Thanx for the reply Patchy.
Forgot to mention the radiator and other cooling system stuff is close to new.
I spoke to the mechanic today (in the nicest possible way!) and he'es just as frustrated as me. Its a VACC place and I think they are genuinely doing their best - just thought they might have not covered all bases.....
