Jimny or sierra

Wanting to buy a jimny or sierra. Which would be better as a daily driver come weekend terror with 30's lift and eventually lockers and a winch. I understand it wll be a little more to do it on a jimny and I am prepared to go offshore. I just need to get an idea of how much more it will cost 20% or 100% more to do up a jimny.

At this stage it will be far more expensive to build up a Jimny as there are far less aftermarket manufactures and the lack of second parts at this stage. This will change as time goes by but at this stage you could build a leafy Sierra for about half the cost of Jimny.

I disagree. for the mods your suggesting a jimny wont cost anymore then a zook to modify but will be a much nicer daily driver. Off course your initial purchase price will be dearer. most aftermarket suspension companies are making suspension kits for jimnies and arb make winch bars for them. for lockers you can choose from, arb air lockers or lockright type lockers. If you want to go bigger tyres then what you have said then it may start to cost more you will need to trim the gaurds and transfer gearing for jimnies is not cheap and I dont think anyone is selling it in Australia.

no question really,

buy the jimny, excellent on and off road. newer so you don't have to put up with reliability issues, and you get power stear/ac etc....................that's why i've got one.

do a 2inch lift and trim, you'll fit 30's under it then. ARB make a real good lift kit, looking at removing my 100mm lift for one of these.

lock the rear, and you'll have a good all-round 4by. i've driven mine from Melbourne to Cairns and back twice in the last 6 months.

Thats it you've convinced me. Found one with 110ks on it asking 7k will try for 6 or 6.5k, 99 JLX (good deal???). How much will the arb lift cost and how much trimming are you talking about :twisted: .

I'd look for a mid 2000 or later model with an m13a and not the g13bb if you plan on keeping it a while.......

Have a good look around there are better lifts than ARB.
I took my ARB 2" lift out.

For a quality lift you should check out http://www.dobinsonsprings.com/catalogues/Suzuki.pdf

If you tell them straight up what else you have fitted, like a bull bar for example, they will give you the right springs first time.

Hope you do join the dark side. Jimny's realy are awesome. I'm having more fun in the zook than I reckon I ever would have in the Pootrol. :lol:

I know the m13a shiats all over the g13bb, but how much bye is it really worth the 2-3k more? I also like the idea of buying one that has a few scratches already pre-installed at a slightly cheaper price, as it will soon have plenty more :armsup: .

Yeah I saw that rig. R U sure it says he is in melbourne, it says sydney on his aviator. Any how I have written him a post and waiting for the response. looks like what i am after plus a fair bit more.

Does anybody know if engineers reports are interchangable between states NSW to VIC. I have a little guy sitting on my shoulder telling me to get on the plane first thing in the morning. I am not so worried about the thing being legal I just need to get a road worthy here in vic so I can rego it.

Mud_Muncher you could always fly up to sydney and then drive back. How much you looking to spend. If you what to have a close look at one before you buy PM I'll give you my details. SAlso I think some sierra are are getting hard to get now.

no they are not you will need a victorian engineers cert.
