Guys,
Have been doing a few things to my '99 GU 2.08TD Wagon. Tinkering under the bonnet today and have noticed a smearing of oil inside the tube of the hose from the intercooler to the inlet manifold.
My natural instinct and experince with N/A engines raises immediate alarm, but having never done any work on a turbo engine before, i'm not sure if this is OK/passable.
Any help would be appreciated.
I really hope i'm not up for a new turbo, but it would give me an opportunity to give the old girl a bit of a power boost...

dont be alarmed
there is not a turbo engine around that doesnt get an oily film on the inlet tract or intercooler, mainly due to the greater cylinder pressures of turbos. As rings wear crankcase pressure gets greater and generally makes more mess, unless you can actually tip your pipes or intercooler upside down and pour oil out it would sound pretty normal to me. Turbo seals can also cause oil ingress to the inlet, so its either just blow-by or worn turbo seals, try running your crankcase breathers into a coke can cable tied in your engine bay for a few hundred kays and monitor how much oil is being pushed out by crank-case pressure.
