turbos

Post by lexi »

What`s the do with TD28 turbo units? Can they be made any good for TD42? Or is turbo too small? In Scotland I`m always on the lookout for a turbo unit that would be suitable for my truck. Does anyone know what number and type of Schwitzer unit is suitable? These turbos are used on commercial trucks here and can be picked up and reconned. I know kits can be imported from Oz but they are more dollars than sense. Also does gasket have to be changed to lower CR ON TD42 when turboing? What else is needed to make up a "kit".

Turbo Manifold. (New gaskets, pehaps new studs)
Braided Oil and (if necessary) water lines. Associated fittings (Tpieces etc).
Hole in the sump for return line.

Associated Piping and Silicon bends for turbo
Most likely a custom air cleaner box. Maybe look at the filters in 3lt td GU's at wreckers and dare I say it a K & N air filter (controversial..)

Mandrel bent exhaust matching the dump pipe of the turbo.

With changing head gaskets I think that is like a high end sort of thing, would only consider doing it when you're >20psi (Passing on information given to me, when I asked similar questions). If you are in this range of boost you will need fuel pump modifications as well. IMHO ~12psi will keep you happy.
