why do people do this? does it allow for more articulation?

Flipping the U-Bolts will result in a lower profile of obstruction on the underside of the axels... This equals more clearance and should also be less inclined to get stuck on surfaces (because the ends of the u-bolts are now pointing upwards).

both very good advantages, only works with springs mounted over the axles but :finger:

:oops: Yeah you've got me there... though you can also get 'sliders' (bash plates) for u-bolts too - i guess that would make them more inclined to slide over things. :? But you're right - there wouldn't be any clearance gains there. :cry:

2.5 inches more clearance same if you replace your gearbox cross member.
