VITARA 2L TD INTO A SIERRA...NEW PICS

Post by mud4b »

hey all i picked up a vitara frontcut today.its a 2Lturbo diesel with auto
im putting it into a sierra(not for road) and its going to be a pain in the a$$.ill see how the conversion goes and if its good ill be offering these
installed or in a kit.the worst part is the t-case is bolted to the gearbox
but you can get a m/t or a/t out of a mazda with no t-case.

heres some pics.

I believe Droopy_Pete is doing a 2.0 & Auto transaplant, not sure if its a Vit motor though.

He may chime in with some words of wisdom, he has 6.1 tcase so I'd say its utilising the siera unit.

Pete is doing a petrol 2.0 and 4 speed auto, apparently the auto is not all that uncommon in other vehicles some toyota vans run em

Either way .. should be pretty quick in a light weight Zuk .. and man will it be creepy .. not unlike the driver :D .. I mean slow ... again like the driver ..

I am sure pete will make me pay for that ..

What's the TD from? I thought all the TD Vit's were an engine install done in Europe for tax reasons.....

I think you will find the diesel is a Citroen/Peugot engine. The Grand Vitara in NZ is offered with a TD and they just upgraded it this year to a new 4 valve direct injection common rail intercooled unit. Torque increased 20Nm to 270Nm @1750 rpm, Power 80Kw @4000rpm, 6-7l/100km fuel consumptio. but as we have a larger market here of course Suzuki OZ won't offer it, if only they sold less..... is that possible??? ;)

My mistake, the Asian market got the Mazda 2.0 TD introduced in '96 and intercooled in '97 while the European market got the Peugot Citroen 1.9 TD. NZ GV's get the Euro engines.

The Peugeot is the European diesel engine. Obviously Suzuki did their own engine deal for other markets with Mazda.

Not bad power spec....... sounds nice and juicy.

I wonder how many people out there now want one for their sierra?

Looks great Mud4b... Though it also looks very big - i reckons there may be a tad bit of work to shoe horn that motor into your li'l sierra.

If i'm not mistaken you are putting it into a LWB right? Either way, you may find it worth while researching the cutting down of the vitara x-fer case so that you can shorten the overall length of the setup, and maybe even squeeze a second x-fer in behind it. This sort of mod is becoming a little bit common down here in melb - but i've never heard of it being done to an Auto - so i'm not sure about how it would work.

Then again, Auto + Diesel - it may well work nicely as is even with bigger tyres - there's a g-wagon down here running considerably larger than stock tyres with no changes to gearing and it works very nicely indeed (i.e. the motor and auto may be able to handle all your gearing requirements as is - especially since you can rockhopper the x-fer from the vitara too)....

Cheers.

you got the idler arm right?they were not ment to touch it when it had already been sold!anyway the zook turns up tomorrow(its from aust.zoo)
we have got rid of the auto and t-case and have replaced it with a 5 speed manuel only....so we can use the sierra t-case.fitting should not be a major problem.

2.4 TD :?: Dont u mean 2.8 TD :D
For starters the the rocky 2.8 would probibly be 2 big for the ferozas engine bay.
The 2L TD has got more power and I can get transfer case reduction gears

Yeah, I got it months ago but.. I actually needed the bracket for bits & template to make a new stronger one. I still have the arm and original bracket from mine if u need it..

I thought I'd heard somewhere that the Rocky and the Feroza were basically the same underneath, it was just the top that was different?

Wrong and wrong :finger:
The early rockys had live axle leaf springs all round. From around 93 on they came with independant torsion bar front end and live axle coil springs at the back.
The feroza has live axle leaf springs down the back and IFS but I think it's different 2 the rocky.

I think there based on the same chassis though but the rocky is a bigger rig then the feroza.
The feroza only came out with a 1.6 fuel injected or carby engine and the rocky came out with a 2.8 naturaly aspirated or turbocharged diesel and a 2 litre petrol engine.
Diffs, gearboxes and transfer cases are different in the rocky and ferozas.

shall I go on

eh when did this topic say 2lt into a feroza or rocky?

anyway the engine is in as is the gearbox and t-case.we had to move it so far back it almost hits the rear body support.

here are some pics of the modded drive shafts.
front was lenghtened (cant remember how much.)
rear was shortened to 295mm(very short i know)
intermediate was made to the size of 210mm
