2 bundy questions for a deisel noob.

Post by bigcam »

jsut bought a bundy (2L-T turo deisel) after wanting to downsize from the 60. just progressing through all the "little crap" that is wrong with a car of this age, while i was pulling the side off the injection pump to replace some o rings i noticed some burnt wires.. pulled the sub loom and repared but one of the sensors was damaged..

leads me to querstion number one.. what is the sensor toward the rear of the block passenger side, just behind the injection pump. it has a plug similar to an EFI fuel injector. cant be the oil pressure as thats on the other side at the back, water temp is up the front on the thermo housing.. so the only thing i can think it may be would be a sensor that lights up the "pre-heat" light on the dash?? can anyone confirm for me...

second question, where is the tacho feed taken from on the 2l-t engine (turbo deisel) i believe it may be on the alternator, pump or seperate sensor near the flywheel etc.... cuz the tacho doesnt work  ...

cheers

the sensor you're talking about is a temp sensor, I seem to remember it is for the glow system.

the tach sensor is on the fuel pump, tucked in towards the engine, towards the top fromt of the pump from memory. If you have burnt wires in that region, that's your problem. sadly, if you need to replace the snesor, you need to take the pump out to get at it. doh.

good luck

thanks, if the sensor is dead then well, might just run with no tach :) anywho, how does it work? does it pulse to ground or to 5v or 12v.. i.e. can another tacho be adapted to work from this sensor output?
cheers

glow plug temp sensor can stay dissconnected its manual anyway, thought it might just make the light light up on the dash for people with no idea..
cheers for the info!
