Supercharging a 3.0L V6

Hey Guys,

Got pointed in this direction from another forum, and thought there might be some interest in what i am doing to my Pajero. The engine was starting to show signs of it 299,000kms, so time for a rebuild and at the same time a found a supercharger. A couple of mods later and here you have it.

I fab'd up some manifolds and a few other bits, as well as my stainless steel extractors.

Quite a bit of work involved, and just lucky i could do it myself, no way i could ever pay someone to do it for me. If anyone's wondering how the EFI goes with the supercharger, well it goes, but only just. I have a Haltech E6K to be wired up soon.

I have been wanting to do this to my triton but when quoted 15000 for a custom manifold from the supercharger supplier it got put on the back burner..

will be very interested in how it works out as a completed package!

Have you considered the unichip instead of a completely new computer?? I know when superchargers are fitted to other efi four wheel drives they have just used this which i would think would be a bit cheaper????

that super cgarger looks huge whats it of a v8 ?

Hey,
I did look at the unichip, and other piggyback units but for what i got the Haltech, there is much better chance of tuning it properly. Who cares about fuel economy, it's got pose economy. Actually my vehicle is quite good now the motor has been rebuilt. You should check the 02 sensor, it could be faulty, there could be a few reasons why yours chews the juice.
Do you have to put your foot to the floor to get it to go?? You should also check the terminals at the ECU as they can become quite corroded. This is probably where the problem is.
The charger is off a mustang, and it'll be running about 9 psi, if i get more, well good for me. Drive is about 2+1/2 to 1.

As you can see, a couple of mods and we're away. $15000 for a manifold, did that include an ATW intercooler.......christ......
Not sure if Triton manifolds are the same, though i suspect they would be.
I wanted blower on the other side, but meant reworking the manifold to much. As i have a spare motor i can, at my leisure make a better manifold if need be.
The way it is now allows me to fit an intercooler to get more power, but will have to move distributor around, but that is in the future. I'll just be happy to be on the road.

No, to both q's, have to get the new EFI wired before that happens. Charger is not on the engine ATM, I put it on to test it out and then took it off. Only takes about 3 hours to fit it.

Loved the fab work man! I gotta practise some more welding haha. Definately a good idea to go with full ECU replacement. Piggy backing is only good for minor mods and there is much more tunability in full aftermarket. Keen to know how your Haltech goes. I just wired up an EMS Stinger 4 (my favourite management) to my Pajero and its great. Really basic wire-up and tuning. Less than a day downtime!

Thanks for the nice comments. Is your Paj a 4 Cyl'? I've never heard of the Stinger 4. A guy i used to work with has a Pajero turbo 4 off-road racer, dunno what system he is running tho'.

Mine is the V6 3.0L 6G72. The Stinger is made be EMS in Sydney and is a very popular ECU replacement in the turbo/import scene. Very cheap and very versatile. I have seen and installed many ECU's and none beat this yet! (IMHO).
