80s shocks in GQ's
80s shocks in GQ's
Hows it goin?
I've seen and heard of ppl extending shock tower and using pin-eye converter's so as to run toyota 80s shocks on GQ's.
What is the advantage/disadvantages in doing this?

You don't need to use pin to eye converters as 80 series L/C front shockies are pin-pin, the same as a GQ. Just lift shock towers by 40mm or so.....but check bumpstop clearance to be sure!
The valving of an 80 series shock is a bit firmer than a GQ, but we still use twin 80 series shocks in the front of a GQ race truck.

so is it the stock 80s shocks that suit a 2" lift, or is all 80s aftermarket shocks better valving than GQ aftermarket shocks? and does anyone know why?

Yeah, stock 80 series are about the right length for 2" lift, I can't remember exactly by how much. The valving is better as the 80 is heavier.GQ Bear wrote:so is it the stock 80s shocks that suit a 2" lift, or is all 80s aftermarket shocks better valving than GQ aftermarket shocks? and does anyone know why?
Dave
I'll give it a go!!!!!
I'm running twin 80 OME "L" series shocks. I've made a completely new tower as it was easier than modifying the factory one. The difference is amazing. Corners than use to be an issue are so controlable. Bumps etc basically dissapear. Going slow is an issue as it is pretty hard but when the foot is down they are great.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
Notsure which shocks Sparky is running on His GU ute. But with twins. They are fantastic when going fast. But suck when going slow.nzdarin wrote:I'm running twin 80 OME "L" series shocks.
